When the gods were born, they remade the world in the image of their
dreams.
This was known as the Age of Gods.
When man was created along with other races of beings, fantastic cities were raised, insane magics were forged and unimaginable wars were fought, as the gods battled for supremacy over all creation.
This was known as the Age of Wonders.
When the gods fled and man was left to make his way in a world full of monsters and arcane magic, some rose up to right wrongs and create justice.
This was known as The Age of Heroes.
The Age of Heroes is set on the world of Xera, a place of magic and mystery. It revolves around the adventures of several different heroes. Each issue is a complete tale, forming part of a larger story in which the world and its history are fleshed out. The first six issues of this series forms a graphic novel entitled Honor and Glory.
Issue one: Drake the blind troubador is on his way to Dunwich for a meeting. He stops at a farm house and relates the story of Wex the Battle Monk and how he came to prevent a hellscape from being created in the forest of Zurdon.
Issue two: Glinda Half-Faeryn meets Conor the one-armed warrior. She wants to hire Conor as a guide to the city of Rynwold. Glinda tells of her quest to free Mael of the Burning Crystal, a hero of legend whom she believes herself to be the reincarnated lover of.
Issue three: We join the adventures of Luko the Trickster and Aerwyn of the Bow as they try to steal the treasure of the gods from the Statues of Rynwold. This is a very bad idea, as they soon discover.
Issue four: Drake arrives in Dunwich and while he's waiting to meet his party, he relates the origin of Mael and how he became the champion of Xera.
Issue five: We learn the what happened to Conor and Glinda after their adventure in the statues of Rynwold.
Issue six: Honor and Glory wraps up with Drake's story of why he came to Dunwich and how it ties into the rest of the tales we just heard.
The Age of Heroes is a dream project for James Hudnall and John Ridgway. Both have wanted to do an epic fantasy series since they entered the comics field. Each issue contains a story about a different hero. Each of these stories, when collected, make up a greater story. It's ususally not apparent at first that the tales are connected, but they weave a tapestry that comes to life through its characters and settings.
Following Honor and Glory we take a trip across the world to visit three of the Hellscapes of the Unwen. Places so dangerous, nothing can be taken for granted. We learn more about the history of the world and its people and the war of the Gods with the Unwen.
The Age of Heroes is a Black and White series. Issue 1 and 2 were published by Halloween Comics. It is now published by Image Comics. Issues 3, 4, 5, Age of Heroes: Wex and the Age of Heroes Special are now available.
