In PortlandActually, I’m right next door to Portland in Vancouver, Wa. Looking for a house. I am moving here at the end of the month, if not sooner.
So posting may be light this week. We’ll see.
I love it up here. Very beautiful. After 10 years in the desert this is exactly the kind of place I need.

ProblemsFor some reason my internet isn’t working on my main computer. I have spent hours trying to resolve the problem, which is why the postings are not there. I hope to have it fixed some time tonight. Argh.
UPDATE: Still couldn’t get my internet working after a day and a half with two help desks and one tech person I know trying to help. My friend, who is an expert sysadmin said it looked like a software problem of some kind that was preventing the network establishing an internet connection. He did not think it was hardware. The only thing I could think of was Norton Anti-virus had some kind of error where it claimed it couldn’t work at all, so I un-installed it as they said I would have to and tried to reinstall it without success. The next day (after a reboot) my internet connection wouldn’t work and no one could help me (I didn’t call Norton because I was feeling like Jackie Gleason at the time.) Now it’s working again. How did I do it?
This is a new computer I had built last month for me. It has a dual core Pentium 2.40Ghz processor, 2 gigs of ram, 1.5 terrabytes of hard drive. an NVidia 8800 Graphics card. The key is the hard drives. I have 3 500 gigabyte drives. One is a backup rive. It automatically backs up key files every week to that drive. All I did was a system restore to Sunday and viola! Problem solved. Now I know what to do next time. If you want a set up like that make sure you have a kick ass power supply. Mine is 800 watts.
Also, I am thinking of dumping Norton after this. It annoys me to have to pay them $50 a year to resubscribe. This article explains your alternatives and makes some good arguments.

Bump UpI decided to increase the font size 2 points to make it easier to read this blog. I hope you all like it. It was a little too small before on my monitor.

I’m BackI came home a little early, and will explain why later. It’s going to be a long post. But overall, I am glad I went. I saw some amazing sights.
In the meantime, I just slept for 12 hours after not sleeping for days. What a trip!
More to come. In the meantime, people were insane to vote off Melinda on Idol. I saw people’s messages in the next thread. I watched it before I went to bed last night. But she should be fine. Elliott sure looks different with long hair and Hollywood teeth. His CD is really good, so I am glad they had him on to promote it.

On VacationI will be taking a break from the blog from Saturday May 13 thru Monday the 21st. I’ll have pictures when I return of my trip to Europe, with interesting stories, no doubt.
My house sitter will tend the Hud Cave while I’m gone. Be good. I will be checking in from over there. I may post something. We’ll see.

The Big Five OhI turn 50 today. Which is hard to believe.
Half a century ago, I was born to James and Edna Hudnall in Santa Rosa, California. 1957.
It’s a strange feeling to turn fifty. One one hand, I don’t feel all that different, but I know I’m not as nimble as I was in the past. Still, people tell me I look like I’m in my 30s and I pretty much have all my hair. So I count my blessings.
I’ve been working out with a trainer in the last six months, trying to get in shape. I hope to keep doing that from now on in some fashion.
Am I where I expected to be at this stage of my life? No. But my life has taken many interesting turns and I hope to keep it that way. Things aree a lot more secure than they were 10 years ago when I moved to Las Vegas. The comics industry crashed and I had to retrain myself to get back into software development. I never thought I’d be back in computers to the extent I am now. I thought I would manage to just be a writer somehow. But I haven’t given it up. I am working on all kinds of things.
I was hoping to have traveled more by now, but I think that will happen in the near future. (More on that later).
I’m a forward looking person, so I don’t dwell on the past too much. I look at how I can make my future better. So even though I am middle-aged and will soon be able to get senior discounts, I have a lot of plans and intend to keep my life very busy and active as long as I can. Most people in my family live a long time. So I hope to do that and get the most out of every year.
UPDATE: I just remembered a joke I meant to say: For the next year I can make gang bangers nervous by saying I’m Five 0. Ba-dump-tsh!

Argh!I took captchas off the comments section for now until I figure out what was going on there. You should be able to post comments now.
In an attempt to fix the categories they are now all out of order. So don’t be surprised to see something like Afghanistan under a comics story. I will sort it out eventually.
Moving this site was a bigger headache than I expected.
UPDATE: All issues resolved.
