Dystopian

Here’s a list of Dystopian futures where the left takes over. And these were written by left leaning people, BTW. George Orwell was a socialist.

And check out this well done fan film which is a parody of the Tom Cruise video. It’s done as an interview with a Combine Soldier. This film references the game Half-Life 2, where aliens have taken over the earth and turned soldiers and cops into brainwashed, oppressive cyborg thugs. In this world, humans are fighting to recapture the world. You may not get it if you aren’t into Half Life 2, which is one of the best video games ever made.

RIP: Don LaFontaine

You’ve heard his voice lots of times in commercials and TV shows. He passed today, age 68.I always loved the sound of his voice.

New contact lenses give girls a anime look. Kind of spooy, actually.

The Secrets of Storytelling

Scientific American has an interesting article about how our love of stories reveals things about the human mind and how it works.

Backlash!

If you missed it, check out this Times of London story about how its not cool to be green anymore. Scolds are never able to keep it up too long because most people hate them. And I think people have a lot less tolerance for them than they did in the 50s when they were a lot more common.

Most people see through the phoniness of teh whole “green” movement. Here’s a simple lexicon that explains green terms:

SUSTAINABLE: It costs more money’
GREEN: It costs more money
ORGANIC: It costs more money
EARTH-FRIENDLY: It costs more money and its crap
RECYCLED: It’s ugly and usually less effective. Oh, and it costs more money.
CARBON-NEUTRAL: Bullshit

More Exotic Fruits

image

Some of these are even stranger than the last ones I posted. They look like something from Star Trek. My mom likes to drink Mangosteen juice.

Ayn Rand’s Playboy Interview

The Atlas Shrugged writer gave an interview to Playboy in 1964. Her philosophy could be called conservative, though it really has its own unique elements. I agree with a lot of it but not all of it. There is no perfect philosophy, though my favorite philosopher is Diogenes

Piracy 101

Very good arguments. Piracy as defined by the RIAA, MPAA, etc is a far more complex matter than they understand. They’re hurting their own business by not figuring out how to exploit the spread of media through piracy instead of pointlessly trying to stop it.

Some companies are figuring out that free is the new way to make money. Those companies will survive and the dinosaurs will fall.

When the public decides it wants something, all the propaganda and laws you can create will not stop the tide. Media businesses need to get smart and adapt to the changing times. Sooner or later, they will have to.
