Quote DuJour

I love Whole Foods talking about lobster and clam cruelty, when people are being fucked to death, kidnapped, starved, bombed. [The grocery chain recently stopped selling some live shellfish on the grounds that the practice is inhumane.] There is so much cruelty to humans—so much cruelty to animals—in this world. And people are worried about a fucking mollusk. Unbelievable.

Improvisation

image

What to do when you’re short on money. People in poor countries use what they got. Like this family in Laos who used unexploded munitions for furniture.

Awesome Home Theaters

The Titanic is the one I would go for. But when I get my own home theater set up, I want it to be art deco. Late 30s, early 40s style.

The Secret Museum of Mankind

This fascinating book came out in 1935 and is full of wonderful pictures of people from a lost time. It covers humanity around the world. It’s amazing how much the world has changed since these pictures were taken. If you like costumes, the local dress in all these places is fascinating. There’s also a lot of stuff about things that no longer exist. Or things you’ve never been exposed to.

UPDATE: It’s back up. New link.

Space Girl Dance

Raquel Welch, one of the 60s and 70s hot ladies. One Million BC, baby! I have the DVD on my shelf. And let’s not forget her in Fantastic Voyage.

Gotta love that YouTube. Speaking of which, I have a YouTube related project I will be announcing on Monday.

The Incredible Shrinking Freedoms

Each generation allows their kids less freedom to wander around. We’ve become so paranoid kids are practically prisoners of their parents until they reach a certain age. I’m glad I was able to travel around a lot on my bike as a preteen. I used to like going all over the place on my bike, exploring the countryside. Even when I was a little kid I wandered all over our neighborhood and surrounding environment in Oahu, Hawaii. I attribute exploring strange new places as sparking my imagination early which lead to be being a creative writer.

But a this picture shows, people are given less and less rope.

Shop Dropping

Instead of shoplifting, some people are doing the opposite. They are adding things to stores.

There are several reasons for this: some are just being pranksters, some are promoting themselves, some are doing a kind of consumer activism.

Oh, to have so much free time. Well, I’d rather be doing what I’m doing anyway.
