The Opening of The Dark Knight
The first five minutes of the Dark Knight
A Funny Hellboy 2 Promo
REVIEW: Hancock
The critics really trashed this film, so I went in wanting to see if it was really all that bad. And guess what? I rather liked it.
I think people’s problem is they went in expecting either an action movie or a comedy, It’s really neither, though it has elements of both. It’s wha they call a dramedy. It seems to have been made by people who are not comics geeks, but it actually has some good action bits I haven’t seen in a superhero movie before. It’s also a unique story about the “last superhuman” and how he tries to straighten out his life after becoming reviled by the public. Along the way he finds out about himself and his forgotten past. It’s not a bad movie at all. Could it have been better? Sure. But I think it did what it set out to do.
If you go in not expecting too much you may end up pleased, like I was.

REVIEW: Wall-EThis film has taken some flack for a couple of things. But I find those complaints are overblown. The first is an alleged Bush bashing quote where an inept president of Earth utters a “stay the course” line. But it has nothing to do with the Iraq war or even Bush. It did elicit some groans in the audience when I saw it, but it comes and goes pretty fast.
The second issue is the depiction of people in the future all being fat and unable to do anything for themselves, They drink their meals out of cups that look exactly like Big Gulps. The story is a thinly veiled green message about the perils of consumerism and “unsustainable growth”. The future earth is a garbage dump and the human race is on an endless cruise in a giant spaceship where robots cater to people’s every whim. And humans just ly on antti gravity lounge chairs and sip their drinks and talk to their friends on internet screens all day. Yes, it’s a pretty trite comment on society today. But the movie itself is very enjoyable.
It’s a simple love story about two robots who meet when the girl robot, Eve, is sent to earth to find evidence of plant life. Wall-E is a garbage compactor robot, the last operating one left on earth, who is lonely and only has a cockroach for a pet.
A big adventure ensues when Eve sends a message back to the ship that she found plant life. All and all, it’s a very funny and charming film. The green message is rather light weight, kind of like Silent Running, which had similar robots and a rather absurd premise. It was probably an inspiration for this film.
But I wouldn’t let it bother you, if you dislike moralizing, it’s not that kind of film. It’s mostly a fun romp.

REVIEW: WantedWell, I wanted (no pun intended) to seee this film because of the the screenwriters will be writing The Psycho movie. And I was pleased.
If bloody violence doesn’t bother you, Wanted is a great thrill ride, but very original and different form your average action movie. The hero is a meek office worker who finds out his father was a superkiller and he inherited his powers. He gets contacted by the lovely and mysterious Fox, played by Angelina Jolie, and is taken into a secret society called the Fraternity which kills people chosen by fate. It has an excellent cast and the action is amazing, if not over the top. Night Watch director Timur Bekmambetov.
I haven’t read the comic, and I understand it was more superhero oriented than this. But I think it will stand out as one of the summer’s more interesting films.

REVIEW: Get SmartNot the funniest movie I’ve ever seen, but certainly not a bad film. I enjoyed it. It had excellent production values and a perfect cast. The humor was like the TV show, deadpan. But updated a little for today’s audiences.
It’s certainly a nice change from all the gross out comedies we;ve been getting, which are starting to become pretty tired. This was more of a classic kind of comedy with wordplay and a little slapstick thrown in.
Steve Carell was the perfect choice to replace Don Adams. While they made this Maxwell Smart a bit more competant than the old one, he was still pretty clumsy and made plenty of mistakes.
The audience seemed to like it, They laughed more than I did, but I’m jaded.
If You Haven’t Seen It, You Should
Get the new remastered version with a lot of material that was cut from the US release added back in. It’s a masterpiece. Also known as “Duck, You Sucker”.
