REVIEW: The Incredible Hulk
Liked it. Didn’t love it.
It was well made, and full of comic book references and in jokes, like Bruce Banner watching a scene from the Courtship of Eddie’s Father on TV, which was an early Bill Bixby show. Bill Bixby later played the Hulk in the TV version. Lou Ferrigno reprised his role as a campus security guard. And of course, Robert Downey Jr shows up at the end to talk about forming the Avengers, A continuation from the Samuel Jackson scene from the end of Iron Man. An Avenger’s movie featuring Captain America is slated for 2011.
The action scenes were excellent. All the actors were great, including William Hurt who made an excellent General Ross. Tom Roth played a solider who becomes the Abonimation. And Tim Blake Nelson plays a scientist who helps Bruce Banner, but apparently will be the Leader in the next Hulk film.
My problem with the film is it was too serious. Hardly any light touches and kind of straight forward. We weren’t made to care enough about the characters. They sort of followed their plotlines and did their job. But no one stood out as a character we felt anything for.
I did think everyone was a great choice for their roles. Liv Tyler was a little wooden, but I think the script was the problem, It turned her into your basic girlfriend/support character,
Tim Blake Nelson is signed to play the Leader in two more films. Here’s a scene of the Leader from the old Hulk cartoon.

Transporter III trailer
It looks like they have Tea Bag (Robert Knepper) from Prison Break as the villain in this one. Cool.
I really get a kick out of these films.

REVIEW: August Rush
I just watched an incredible film that came out last year and is out on DVD now. I heard it was really good so I finally got around to watching it. It’s the story of a young boy who grew up in an orphanage who is looking for his parents. They don’t even know he’s alive. Both of them are musicians and the boy is a musical prodigy. The story is how they all are reunited. It’s really a fantastical story but extremely well done and full of great actors.
If you haven’t seen this film, you should check it out. It’s both heartwarming and full of great music. Robin Williams is in it as a Fagin type character who takes the kid in at one point. This is one of those rare movies where we see Robin Williams be someone else, and show he can really act. It also features Terrance Howard and Keri Russell.
See it. You’ll be glad you did.
I also recommend as a double feature, Across the Universe. An excellent musical featuring Beatles music. They really did an amazing job with that one.
Outsiders
25 documentaries about outsiders. Grizzly Man is something else. A real lesson of how foolish it is to see nature from a human perspective. Animals aren’t people, nor do they think like us.

REVIEW: Kung Fu Panda
A very funny movie with excellent, beautiful animation and the fight at the end is spectacular, Really great stuff. The humor is reminiscent of the Road Runner cartoons, somewhat.

Warner’s Strange Watchman Strategy
They plan on making a “Takes of the Black Freighter” movie, straight to DVD that precedes Watchman. The movie is based on a comic within the Watchman comic graphic novel. It is a fairly morose pirate story, nothing like the Pirates of the Caribbean, I don’t know how well that will play, but we shall see.
