Of Course They Want It

The AGW Peeps are pushing the presidential candidates to bust out their checkbooks once one of them gets elected. Both believe in Global Warming.

Eight scientific organisations have urged the next US president to help protect the country from climate change by pushing for increased funding for research and forecasting. The organisations say about $2 trillion of US economic output could be hurt by storms, floods and droughts.

“We don’t think we have the right kind of tools to help decision makers plan for the future,” said Jack Fellows, the vice president for corporate affairs of the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research, a consortium of 71 universities.

The groups, including the American Geophysical Union and the American Meteorological Society, urged Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama and Republican rival John McCain to support $9 billion in investments between 2010 and 2014 to help protect the country from extreme weather, which would nearly double the current US budget for the area.

$9 billion in 4 years. Didn’t I tell you this is the scam of the century? No wonder so many “scientists” are pushing this drivel.

Arctic Ice Isn’t Going Away. Sorry.

Another claim by the increasingly hysterical AGW crowd is being disproved. Oops. (Graphs supplied in the article.)

The National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) in Boulder, Colorado released an alarming graph on August 11, showing that Arctic ice was rapidly disappearing, back towards last year’s record minimum. Their data shows Arctic sea ice extent only 10 per cent greater than this date in 2007, and the second lowest on record. Here’s a smaller version of the graph:
Arctic ice not disappearing

The problem is that this graph does not appear to be correct. Other data sources show Arctic ice having made a nice recovery this summer. NASA Marshall Space Flight Center data shows 2008 ice nearly identical to 2002, 2005 and 2006. Maps of Arctic ice extent are readily available from several sources, including the University of Illinois, which keeps a daily archive for the last 30 years. A comparison of these maps (derived from NSIDC data) below shows that Arctic ice extent was 30 per cent greater on August 11, 2008 than it was on the August 12, 2007. (2008 is a leap year, so the dates are offset by one.)

There are things called seasons, even in the arctic. Seasons change. Climate change is a reality, but human beings have little to do with it. At least, that has never been proved conclusively. Objective proof seems to suggest otherwise. Nature is consistent and never has been.

So why do we keep hearing the ice is going away? I’ll bet you’ll never guess.

The Arctic did not experience the meltdowns forecast by NSIDC and the Norwegian Polar Year Secretariat. It didn’t even come close. Additionally, some current graphs and press releases from NSIDC seem less than conservative. There appears to be a consistent pattern of overstatement related to Arctic ice loss

Gee, politics wouldn’t have something to do with that, would it?

An Astronaut on AGW

This article is very well reasoned, as opposed to the GW fanatics who attack it in the comments.

UPDATE:
THis article from Australia’s Age is also pretty good. “The Age of Unreason.” A title I had been planning to use for some time about the very same subject and our culture in general.

Both McCain and Obama believe in AGW, but Obama seems the more fanatical. Making it easy for me to decide who is more a “threat” to society.

There is no Consensus

I’ve been saying this for years. It should be obvious, but people will believe anything. And when they’re told by their ideological leaders that “the debate on climate change is over” some of them just have to be suckers and buy into the hype. Well, guess what kids?

The American Physical Society, an organization representing nearly 50,000 physicists, has reversed its stance on climate change and is now proclaiming that many of its members disbelieve in human-induced global warming.  The APS is also sponsoring public debate on the validity of global warming science.  The leadership of the society had previously called the evidence for global warming “incontrovertible.”

In a posting to the APS forum, editor Jeffrey Marque explains,"There is a considerable presence within the scientific community of people who do not agree with the IPCC conclusion that anthropogenic CO2 emissions are very probably likely to be primarily responsible for global warming that has occurred since the Industrial Revolution.”

Scientific consensus is not proof of anything, anyway, since scientists often have to change their positions every 10 to 20 years. Science is an evolving thing. Dogma like the kind AGW people espouse is anti-science.

Hopefully we’ll see more and more debate and less and less hype before everything we need and like gets regulated out of existence by ignorant politicians. (See the previous article).

Truth of the Day

Time to round up James Hansen and Al Gore. They need help badly.

PSYCHIATRISTS have detected the first case of “climate change delusion” - and they haven’t even yet got to Kevin Rudd and his global warming guru.

Writing in the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Psychiatry, Joshua Wolf and Robert Salo of our Royal Children’s Hospital say this delusion was a “previously unreported phenomenon”.

“A 17-year-old man was referred to the inpatient psychiatric unit at Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne with an eight-month history of depressed mood . . . He also . . . had visions of apocalyptic events.”

(So have Alarmist of the Year Tim Flannery, Profit of Doom Al Gore and Sir Richard Brazen, but I digress.)

“The patient had also developed the belief that, due to climate change, his own water consumption could lead within days to the deaths of millions of people through exhaustion of water supplies.”

It really is mass hysteria sold by charlatans and frauds. The sooner this scam is exposed the better for everyone.

BS DuJour

I am really getting sick of these clowns. Now they’re claiming flat TV screens cause global warming. THERE IS NO PROOF AGW EXISTS. None!

The stuff they keep claiming is proof is almost always either shot down like the Mann Hockey Stick or attributed to other forces, like the snow melt in Mt Kilimanjaro. And let’s not forget “Greenland is Melting”.

Meanwhile, hack “scientist” James Hansen, one of the biggest media whores on the planet, is calling for more money and a bigger agency (for him to run no doubt). Right.

The Debate is Over?

And this from a country where the news is even more biased than here. The BBC has been such a radical proponent of AGW as is almost all of the British press, it just goes to show, you can fool some of the people some of the time, but…

The majority of the British public is still not convinced that climate change is caused by humans - and many others believe scientists are exaggerating the problem, according to an exclusive poll for The Observer.

The results have shocked campaigners who hoped that doubts would have been silenced by a report last year by more than 2,500 scientists for the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which found a 90 per cent chance that humans were the main cause of climate change and warned that drastic action was needed to cut greenhouse gas emissions.

The findings come just before the release of the government’s long-awaited renewable energy strategy, which aims to cut the UK’s greenhouse gas emissions by 20 per cent over the next 12 years.

The peeps at the Guardian have to be really upset by this. Ha ha.

I’d be surprised if this wasn’t the same here. Most people I talk to think global warming is a joke. The ones who believe it don’t seem all that into it. Most people are just bored to tears by the subject. And personally, I am sick of having scolds ramming their guilt trips down my throat from every media outlet on a daily basis.

UPDATE: Eco-fanatic and information fabricator, James Hansen, NASA scientist who’s a bigger media whore than Bono, shows his fascist side today. The AGW extremists want to shut down any debate or criticism because it gets in the way of their cash flow.

James Hansen, one of the world’s leading climate scientists, will today call for the chief executives of large fossil fuel companies to be put on trial for high crimes against humanity and nature, accusing them of actively spreading doubt about global warming in the same way that tobacco companies blurred the links between smoking and cancer.

If anyone should be put on trial it’s chicken little crackpots who try to scare the public with bogus science and political witchhunts.

Which is Worse?

The hypocrisy of some of the people on this list, their gross consumption or the crypto-fascist nagging of the eco-creeps calling them out? I’m leaning toward the third option, myself. Most of us are aware that Al Gore is a fraud. But who cares how much jet fuel Bill Gates or John Travolta uses if they’re paying for it?

More and more articles like this are appearing in newspapers and it shows how invasive the AGW fanatics are getting. Soon they will be calling for accountability for “carbon criminals”. Don’t laugh. We live in an age of increasing intolerance. And the scolds are gaining political clout all the time. Laws are being passed to deny people freedoms over things that should have never been outlawed in the first place, like incandescent lightbulbs.

The only new laws that should be passed are ones decreeing that people who use words like “sustainable” and “carbon footprint” should get a public flogging.

Carbon Belch Day

Today, Grassfire.org announced the first-ever “Carbon Belch Day” – an unprecedented day to help Americans break free from the “carbon footprint” guilt being imposed by Climate Alarmists.

“It’s time for Americans to purge ourselves of the false guilt that Al Gore and the Climate Alarmists have placed on us,” says Grassfire.org President Steve Elliott. “The fact is, reducing my personal carbon output has no impact on the so-called ‘planetary emergency.’ That’s why for this one special day we are encouraging every American to unleash a historic ‘Carbon Belch’ that will be symbolic of our release from the absurdity of green extremism.”

Grassfire has scheduled the inaugural Carbon Belch Day for June 12, to coincide with the expected debate over the $1.2 trillion carbon tax debate in Congress. Grassfire has established a special website—http://carbonbelchday.com—along with a 21-question “carbon belch calculator” to help citizens quantify their personal carbon belch and join this effort. “There’s something for everyone in our calculator,” says Elliott. “You can increase your carbon belch simply by hosting a barbecue, going for a drive, watching television, leaving a few lights on, or even smoking a few cigars. Everyone can do their part to save the planet from climate alarmism—and there’s real science behind our calculator.”

Elliott says Carbon Belch Day will have “at least as much impact on the so-called ‘planetary emergency’ of man-made global warming as the goofy save the earth mandates telling us to turn our lights off for an hour. In fact, since energy is the lifeblood of our economy, a healthy carbon belch just might do some good!”
