BS of the Day
The climate creeps are really out of their minds in England. Here’s yet another example.
Britain must abandon using almost all fossil fuels to produce power in 20 years’ time, the government’s climate change watchdog will warn today.
The independent Climate Change Committee will publish its advice to the government that the UK should set a 2050 target of cutting all greenhouse gas emissions by at least 80% - including the emissions from aviation and transport, which were previously excluded.
Because it is unlikely that emissions from aviation and shipping will be cut so dramatically, other sectors, particularly power generation, would have to reduce emissions by much more, with big increases in energy efficiency, wind and tide power, and probably new nuclear generators, Lord Turner of Ecchinswell, the committee chairman, told the Guardian.
“We have to almost totally decarbonise the power sector by 2030, well before 2050,” he said.
The committee will say the far-reaching changes would cost about 1-2% of the value of the economy in 2050, although growth would still be strong. “Rather than be twice present levels, [gross domestic product] would be 1 or 2% less than that,” added Turner.
If they think a move like that would only effect 1 to 2% of the economy, they really are insane. They are apparently unaware of the realities of energy. Yet they are trying to dictate to the rest of their countrymen how it’s got to be, based on an unproven theory. One that is being disproved all the time. .
The left may want to deride capitalism for the economy, but they are doing a lot on their own to ruin it even more.

Oh, Shut Up
Someone really needs to put a cork in these AGW clowns. It’s getting really old. Now they want us to ration food.
People will have to be rationed to four modest portions of meat and one litre of milk a week if the world is to avoid run-away climate change, a major new report warns.
The report, by the Food Climate Research Network, based at the University of Surrey, also says total food consumption should be reduced, especially “low nutritional value” treats such as alcohol, sweets and chocolates.
It urges people to return to habits their mothers or grandmothers would have been familiar with: buying locally in-season products, cooking in bulk and in pots with lids or pressure cookers, avoiding waste and walking to the shops - alongside more modern tips such as using the microwave and internet shopping.
This is the danger of giving these people too much credence. They keep making more and more hysterical demands and there doesn’t seem to be a limit on the extreme nature of these calls.
The good news about the bad economy is shuts down frivolous arguments like these. People don’t have time to listen to AGW scaremongers when they have real things to worry about. AGW and the anti-carbon industry is more of a luxury guilt trip.
UPDATE: It really is getting out of hand.

A Long Overdue Investigation
The BBC is being investigated for one sided Global Warming coverage. They have been ridiculously one sided about it. Almost as bad as the press here has been for Obama.

Court Sanctions Terrorism
A British Court sanctioned the acts of eco-vandals after alleged scientist and media whore James Hansen testified it was OK to do so on grounds of global warming.
In a monumental ruling, a British jury acquitted six Greenpeace activists of criminal damage charges stemming from what the activists said was an attempt to shut down a coal-fired power plant. The jury decided that the activists’ action was justifiable because the plant, which emits 20,000 tons of CO2 every day, will hold some blame for immense damage caused by global warming in the future.
It’s a good thing all they did was paint something on a wall. But this ruling could make other groups a lot more bold. Not a good thing when they think the ends justify the means, and they’re protesting something that arguably doesn’t exist.

Of Course They Want It
The AGW Peeps are pushing the presidential candidates to bust out their checkbooks once one of them gets elected. Both believe in Global Warming.
Eight scientific organisations have urged the next US president to help protect the country from climate change by pushing for increased funding for research and forecasting. The organisations say about $2 trillion of US economic output could be hurt by storms, floods and droughts.
“We don’t think we have the right kind of tools to help decision makers plan for the future,” said Jack Fellows, the vice president for corporate affairs of the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research, a consortium of 71 universities.
The groups, including the American Geophysical Union and the American Meteorological Society, urged Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama and Republican rival John McCain to support $9 billion in investments between 2010 and 2014 to help protect the country from extreme weather, which would nearly double the current US budget for the area.
$9 billion in 4 years. Didn’t I tell you this is the scam of the century? No wonder so many “scientists” are pushing this drivel.

Arctic Ice Isn’t Going Away. Sorry.
Another claim by the increasingly hysterical AGW crowd is being disproved. Oops. (Graphs supplied in the article.)
The National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) in Boulder, Colorado released an alarming graph on August 11, showing that Arctic ice was rapidly disappearing, back towards last year’s record minimum. Their data shows Arctic sea ice extent only 10 per cent greater than this date in 2007, and the second lowest on record. Here’s a smaller version of the graph:
Arctic ice not disappearingThe problem is that this graph does not appear to be correct. Other data sources show Arctic ice having made a nice recovery this summer. NASA Marshall Space Flight Center data shows 2008 ice nearly identical to 2002, 2005 and 2006. Maps of Arctic ice extent are readily available from several sources, including the University of Illinois, which keeps a daily archive for the last 30 years. A comparison of these maps (derived from NSIDC data) below shows that Arctic ice extent was 30 per cent greater on August 11, 2008 than it was on the August 12, 2007. (2008 is a leap year, so the dates are offset by one.)
There are things called seasons, even in the arctic. Seasons change. Climate change is a reality, but human beings have little to do with it. At least, that has never been proved conclusively. Objective proof seems to suggest otherwise. Nature is consistent and never has been.
So why do we keep hearing the ice is going away? I’ll bet you’ll never guess.
The Arctic did not experience the meltdowns forecast by NSIDC and the Norwegian Polar Year Secretariat. It didn’t even come close. Additionally, some current graphs and press releases from NSIDC seem less than conservative. There appears to be a consistent pattern of overstatement related to Arctic ice loss
Gee, politics wouldn’t have something to do with that, would it?

An Astronaut on AGW
This article is very well reasoned, as opposed to the GW fanatics who attack it in the comments.
UPDATE: THis article from Australia’s Age is also pretty good. “The Age of Unreason.” A title I had been planning to use for some time about the very same subject and our culture in general.
Both McCain and Obama believe in AGW, but Obama seems the more fanatical. Making it easy for me to decide who is more a “threat” to society.

There is no Consensus
I’ve been saying this for years. It should be obvious, but people will believe anything. And when they’re told by their ideological leaders that “the debate on climate change is over” some of them just have to be suckers and buy into the hype. Well, guess what kids?
The American Physical Society, an organization representing nearly 50,000 physicists, has reversed its stance on climate change and is now proclaiming that many of its members disbelieve in human-induced global warming. The APS is also sponsoring public debate on the validity of global warming science. The leadership of the society had previously called the evidence for global warming “incontrovertible.”
In a posting to the APS forum, editor Jeffrey Marque explains,"There is a considerable presence within the scientific community of people who do not agree with the IPCC conclusion that anthropogenic CO2 emissions are very probably likely to be primarily responsible for global warming that has occurred since the Industrial Revolution.”
Scientific consensus is not proof of anything, anyway, since scientists often have to change their positions every 10 to 20 years. Science is an evolving thing. Dogma like the kind AGW people espouse is anti-science.
Hopefully we’ll see more and more debate and less and less hype before everything we need and like gets regulated out of existence by ignorant politicians. (See the previous article).

Truth of the Day
Time to round up James Hansen and Al Gore. They need help badly.
PSYCHIATRISTS have detected the first case of “climate change delusion” - and they haven’t even yet got to Kevin Rudd and his global warming guru.
Writing in the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Psychiatry, Joshua Wolf and Robert Salo of our Royal Children’s Hospital say this delusion was a “previously unreported phenomenon”.
“A 17-year-old man was referred to the inpatient psychiatric unit at Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne with an eight-month history of depressed mood . . . He also . . . had visions of apocalyptic events.”
(So have Alarmist of the Year Tim Flannery, Profit of Doom Al Gore and Sir Richard Brazen, but I digress.)
“The patient had also developed the belief that, due to climate change, his own water consumption could lead within days to the deaths of millions of people through exhaustion of water supplies.”
It really is mass hysteria sold by charlatans and frauds. The sooner this scam is exposed the better for everyone.

BS DuJour
I am really getting sick of these clowns. Now they’re claiming flat TV screens cause global warming. THERE IS NO PROOF AGW EXISTS. None!
The stuff they keep claiming is proof is almost always either shot down like the Mann Hockey Stick or attributed to other forces, like the snow melt in Mt Kilimanjaro. And let’s not forget “Greenland is Melting”.
Meanwhile, hack “scientist” James Hansen, one of the biggest media whores on the planet, is calling for more money and a bigger agency (for him to run no doubt). Right.
