Amazing Makeovers

It’s amazing what wonders a stylist, some makeup and clothes (and in some cases, a dentist) can do.

Which is Worse?

The hypocrisy of some of the people on this list, their gross consumption or the crypto-fascist nagging of the eco-creeps calling them out? I’m leaning toward the third option, myself. Most of us are aware that Al Gore is a fraud. But who cares how much jet fuel Bill Gates or John Travolta uses if they’re paying for it?

More and more articles like this are appearing in newspapers and it shows how invasive the AGW fanatics are getting. Soon they will be calling for accountability for “carbon criminals”. Don’t laugh. We live in an age of increasing intolerance. And the scolds are gaining political clout all the time. Laws are being passed to deny people freedoms over things that should have never been outlawed in the first place, like incandescent lightbulbs.

The only new laws that should be passed are ones decreeing that people who use words like “sustainable” and “carbon footprint” should get a public flogging.

Stupid Movie Execs

The same dufus who refused to pay Peter Jackson the money he was owed for the Lord of the Rings DVDs, and who said Jackson will never be allowed to do the Hobbit because he sued New Line over it, is showing how dumb he really is by shorting Marvel stock, expecting their movies to fail.

Of course, this guy got fired from New Line, after running the company into the ground.

Hollywood sure is full of dolts.

RIP: Stan Winston

I had the pleasure of meeting him once when trying to get one of my comics made into a film. Stan was a nice guy and a real pioneer in his field.

Stan Winston, an Oscar-winning visual effects artist, has died at age 62.

Winston died at home Sunday evening after a seven-year struggle with multiple myeloma, according to a rep from Stan Winston Studio.

“Stan died peacefully at home surrounded by family,” a spokeswoman said.

Winston won four visual effects Oscars and earned multiple nominations. His first Oscar was for James Cameron’s “Aliens” (1986). Winston later won two Oscars for “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” (1992) (visual effects and makeup) and 1993’s “Jurassic Park.”

Phil Tippett, who shared a visual effects Oscar with Winston on “Jurassic Park,” noted that Winston was one of the best in the business.
