Whew
Still getting things together here. The weather is wonderful and it’s nice to walk around downtown Vancouver during lunch time. I am already getting a lot more exercise since I came here.
I don’t have a house yet. I am suppose dto get one later in the month so I have been staying with a friend. It’s kind of weird not having my own place. But I will soon.
Today I went and got a new mail box. But what a hassle that was. The post office wouldn’t give me one without a permanent address here. And so I got a box at a local mail box business and then the post office said I couldn’t change my address to that because it was a business and my old address was a home. Now I have to deal with that bureaucratic BS. What a hassle.
I have to say I like the change of scenery a lot. It’s really beautiful at this time of the year. I feel right at home here. It reminds me of Sonoma County, California, where I am from. But with 5 times the trees.
Vancouver, Wa is a small town across the Columbia river from Portland. It’s very small town USA, which is fine with me. I like it a lot. Portland is a very lovely city in its own way, with lots of cool restaurants and places to check out. Not to mention the most bridges I have ever seen in a town. My friend lives in the hills above the city in a very lush area, so its very peaceful to come home and kick back by the koi pond and read a book. On the way to and from work I drive through 23rd street, which is a very trending part of town with lots of cool shops and eateries (and no parking anywhere!). I will be checking all of this out in due course and take some pictures.

The Teachings of Diogenes
Diogenes was one of the greatest Greek Philosophers. He was also the first cynic. HE was both funny and a contrarian. I consider him one of my inspirations.

Made It
I got here a day late, but I am finally in Portland. Once I get my bearings I will start blogging again. Probably on Sunday sometime.

Nightmare any minute
I still have lots of stuff to do and movers are coming. Man, I hate moving. Did I mention that already?
At least I finally got to clean my cyclone aftermath office.
Well, I am determined to get out of here today. No offense to Vegas, which is a town I still enjoy, but I am itching to be on the road.

Let the Hate Begin!
They ostracized smokers with scientifically bogus second hand smoke argument (which almost no one questions despite the fact there is no real evidence to support it). Now they have a new second hand smoke argument they are floating against “obese people”. Watch them try to demonize the overweight.
If your friends and family get fat, chances are you will too, researchers report in a startling new study that suggests obesity is “socially contagious” and can spread easily from person to person.
The large, federally funded study found that to be true even if your loved ones lived far away. Social ties seemed to play a surprisingly strong role, even more than genes are known to do.
“We were stunned to find that friends who are hundreds of miles away have just as much impact on a person’s weight status as friends who are right next door,” said co-author James Fowler of the University of California, San Diego.
As with smoking, they will incrementally use these alleged “studies” to justify all kinds of limits on people’s freedoms and rights. We really need to stop this creeping fascism unless we want to be restricted in very way shape and form under the aegis of “protecting us from ourselves”.
I don’t. At all.
Leaving Las Vegas
Well, today I load up a truck with all my stuff. I’ve been packing and sorting all week, Sweat has been pouring down my face as I had to work in my garage part of the time and it has been hot and humid. I still have a lot to do so I won’t leave until Thursday morning. However, I may pack away my computer and modem so posting should be very light until Friday or Saturday. I will see what I can do.
I’ll be glad when I am finally up there. Moving is one of my least favorite things.
