10 Sources of Movies and TV Online
Some really useful sites if you watch to catch up on shows. TV Links has lots of British stuff including almost every Doctor Who episode available. There’s also a lot of movies including ones not released on DVD yet.
Science and Religion Don’t Mix
Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor has a problem. Two problems. The first is that Mecca keeps moving.
Well, not really. It’s Shukor who’ll be moving. As Malaysia’s first astronaut, he’s scheduled to lift off October 10 in a Russian Soyuz spacecraft for a nine-day visit during the holy month of Ramadan to the International Space Station.
He’s a devout Muslim and when he says his daily prayers he wants to face Mecca, specifically the Ka’aba, the holiest place in Islam ("Turn then thy face towards the Sacred Mosque: wherever ye are, turn your faces towards it .... “ The Quran, Al-Baqarah, 2:149).
That’s where the trouble comes in. From ISS, orbiting 220 miles above the surface of the Earth, the qibla (an Arabic word meaning the direction a Muslim should pray toward Mecca) changes from second to second. During some parts of the space station’s orbit, the qibla can move nearly 180 degrees during the course of a single prayer. What’s a devout Muslim to do?
“As a Muslim, I do hope to do my responsibilities,” Shukor says. “I do hope to fast in space.”
The Funny Pages
The NY Times shows its not entirely worthless by running a new series by Dan Clowes. They are also paying attention to other alternative comics artists like Seth, Chris Ware and Joe Sacco. This slideshow on comics is excellent.
See Ya, Dems
I’ve warned that this would happen. The usual suspects and hacks have been using Global Warming as a scare tool to squeeze more money out of us and limit our freedoms, just as they claim the war on terror is doing. So here comes the squeeze. But I don’t think the Dems will like the backlash.
Dealing with global warming will be painful, says one of the most powerful Democrats in Congress. To back up his claim he is proposing a recipe many people won’t like _ a 50-cent gasoline tax, a carbon tax and scaling back tax breaks for some home owners.
“I’m trying to have everybody understand that this is going to cost and that it’s going to have a measure of pain that you’re not going to like,” Rep. John Dingell, who is marking his 52nd year in Congress, said Wednesday in an interview with The Associated Press.
Dingell will offer a “discussion draft” outlining his tax proposals on Thursday, the same day that President Bush holds a two-day conference to discuss voluntary efforts to combat climate change.
But Dingell, chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee that will craft climate legislation, is making it clear that he believes tackling global warming will require a lot more if it is to be taken seriously.
“This is going to cause pain,” he said, adding that he wants to make certain “the pain is shared in a way that is fair, proper, acceptable and accomplishes the basic purpose” of reducing greenhouse gases, mainly carbon dioxide from burning fossil fuels.
So they want to raise our taxes till it hurts. And all for an unproven theory which is finding more and more as people start to talk back. You already know my position. I think man-made global warming is another scam from the same people who constantly like to raise our taxes and whittle away at our freedoms. All in the name of “protecting us”. Because they know that we wouldn’t consent to this crap if it was in the name of screwing us, which is exactly what its all about.
I am hoping that this ends up causing the Dems no end of grief. Let’s face it, public opinion of Congress is approaching a zero favorability. If you ask me, they deserve much worse.

World’s Stupidest Conspiracy Theories
A new blog called Swallowing the Camel has a list of some of them.
Hansen Busted Again
GW hack and “father of Global Warming” James Hansen is revealed to be all about the benjamins, just like he accuses anyone who is skeptical of global warming. And once more this sheds light on how disreputable the GW alarmists really are if people bother to dig deep for information.
How many people, for instance, know that James Hansen, a man billed as a lonely “NASA whistleblower” standing up to the mighty U.S. government, was really funded by Soros’ Open Society Institute , which gave him “legal and media advice”?
That’s right, Hansen was packaged for the media by Soros’ flagship “philanthropy,” by as much as $720,000, most likely under the OSI’s “politicization of science” program.
That may have meant that Hansen had media flacks help him get on the evening news to push his agenda and lawyers pressuring officials to let him spout his supposedly “censored” spiel for weeks in the name of advancing the global warming agenda.
I’m sure this isn’t the last time we hear something bad about Hansen. And he’s one of the biggest “experts” the GW shriekers trot out.
The politicization of science is something the Communists used to do. And it always leads to bad results. Science and Politics don’t mix. Any scientist who tries to enable the politicians for some agenda in this way should be drummed out of their position.

BS DuJour
Almost two-thirds of the world’s people say there must be urgent action to tackle global warming, a poll for the BBC World Service showed on Tuesday.
Overall, 65 percent of the 22,000 people polled in 21 countries said there was a need “to take major steps very soon” ranging from 91 percent in Spain to 37 percent in India.
In the United States, the world’s biggest emitter of climate changing carbon gases, 59 percent called for urgent action and in China, which builds a coal-fired power station every five days to feed its booming economy, it was 70 percent.
Like most bogus poll results, they don’t provide critical data like the questions asked, who exactly were they polling and how, etc. This is classic “manufacturing consent” tactics.
Dem Paranoia Booster
Bush is giving advice to Hillary, who he thinks will win the Dem nomination. That’s got to make a few lefties a bit more deranged.
President Bush is quietly providing back-channel advice to Hillary Rodham Clinton, urging her to modulate her rhetoric so she can effectively prosecute the war in Iraq if elected president.
In an interview for the new book “The Evangelical President,” White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten said Bush has “been urging candidates: ‘Don’t get yourself too locked in where you stand right now. If you end up sitting where I sit, things could change dramatically.’ ”
Bolten said Bush wants enough continuity in his Iraq policy that “even a Democratic president would be in a position to sustain a legitimate presence there.”
“Especially if it’s a Democrat,” the chief of staff told The Examiner in his West Wing office. “He wants to create the conditions where a Democrat not only will have the leeway, but the obligation to see it out.”
See, they’re all in this together. It’s a conspiracy! Woooooo!
Perverts!
