Abandoned Soviet Stuff

All the stuff left behind when the Soviet Union collapsed. If Russia wasn’t such a mess, it would be cool to own some of these properties and renovate them. Especially the submarine base.

The Music Industry Finally Gets It

They’re making songs downloadable for free. And I think this was a wise move. They will start to see real profits when they work out a way for them to make money through advertising.

Suing endless people was only costing them money and yielding little results. It won’t be long before the movie business is forced to follow suit.

As a creative person, I want to make money from my work, but I don’t fear that I won’t now. Rather, I think this will make it easier in many ways. The sports industry feared televised sports in the 60s because they thought free games on TV would somehow make them lose money. It had the opposite effect. I think the same will apply to free music downloads. More people will be exposed to the music, and they will spend money in other ways that will enrich everyone concerned.

Watch.

Tom, Nicole and Katie

This ex-Scientologist tells the whole story of Tom Cruise’s trajectory in the church And why he hooked up with some of his ladies. Fascinating stuff and it jibs with other stories I have heard.

The Disgrace of Socialized Medicine

More obnoxiousness from Britain’s NHS. Pay the state the power to “take care of you” and they won’t. Never buy into tax funded programs. You will always get the short end of the stick.

Doctors are calling for NHS treatment to be withheld from patients who are too old or who lead unhealthy lives.

Smokers, heavy drinkers, the obese and the elderly should be barred from receiving some operations, according to doctors, with most saying the health service cannot afford to provide free care to everyone.

The findings of a survey conducted by Doctor magazine sparked a fierce row last night, with the British Medical Association and campaign groups describing the recommendations from family and hospital doctors as “outĀrageous” and “disgraceful”.

About one in 10 hospitals already deny some surgery to obese patients and smokers, with restrictions most common in hospitals battling debt.

They also deny health care to many people over 70. This is what you get when you let the government “help you”. And note, these people have to pay huge taxes for this service. Whether they get it or not.

Talk about a scam.
