Today’s Elections
I was sorry to see that Fred Thompson failed to win South Carolina today. He only came in third. But Ron Paul came in second in Nevada!
This isn’t totally a surprise. Nevada is a fairly libertarian place. It also has a large Mormon population, which is why Romney’s win was expected.
So what does this mean for Fred? He only came in third, but he beat Romney in SC. If I were him, I’d stay in through Super Tuesday. At the very least he could collect delegates and use them as a bartering tool when it comes time to decide the candidate.
Huckabee is probably dead as a candidate at this point. Even though he came in a close second in SC, he should have won. That’s one of the best places to run if you want the evangelical vote. Thompson seems to have stolen some of his thunder. I suspect he will continue to do so if he stays in the race.
There could be another surprise in the next few primaries, but it’s looking like it’s going to be a Mitt vs McCain race. McCain has the edge. Republicans have a tendency to nominate the “next in line” politician. McCain is “next in line” after Bush. At this time the Republicans need to shake things up a little. They desperately need to regain the publics’ confidence. McCain has a lot of negatives for many conservatives, so we’ll see how long he stays ahead. But he might possibly win over independents and some Democrats who hate Hillary.
Giuliani seems to be down for the count. If he doesn’t do well in Florida, he might as well join Duncan Hunter and leave the race.
So what about Paul? His strong showing in Nevada will probably be ignored by the media, but it’s impressive. And you have to wonder how he does on Super Tuesday. He seems to be very popular here in Washington and Oregon. I see more signs for Ron Paul than any other candidate, Democrat or Republican. That may be an unscientific observation, but he seems to be more popular than the media wants us to believe.
It’ll be interesting to see what new attacks on Paul’s character will come out in light of this showing.
UPDATE: CNN tells a lie about who in second place. And all the CNN viewers like to pick on FOX news.
Space Girl Dance
Raquel Welch, one of the 60s and 70s hot ladies. One Million BC, baby! I have the DVD on my shelf. And let’s not forget her in Fantastic Voyage.
Gotta love that YouTube. Speaking of which, I have a YouTube related project I will be announcing on Monday.

You Have to Wonder…

If Scientology is so great, why are they afraid of letting this video of Tom Cruise get out? He’s talking about how wonderful Scientology is, and how they’re the only one who can save people from car crashes and toxic waste. How they have the power to “bring world peace and unite cultures.” How they can rehabilitate criminals and drug users. In fact, the video claims he’s introduced L. Ron’s “technology” to over one billion people. You’d think they’d want everyone to see it.
Maybe it’s the strange out bursts of laughter and the vague statements that don’t go anywhere. Maybe it’s the zealot’s look in his eyes, which reminds us he has the powers of the sith.
I don’t think their lawsuit against Andrew Morton’s book is going to stop the damage Cruise has done to himself. But you’d think he’d be smart enough to recognize how foolish he is making himself look. And yet he does nothing to counter the impression he’s leaving. If anything, the problem is getting worse.
He’s become the religious Britney Spears. In an odd way, he’s the sober Amy Winehouse. A celeb who seems clueless to the destruction of his image and career that’s happening around him.
Of course, that video wasn’t meant for the general public to see, but again, why should they want to hide it? Unless they know fanaticism doesn’t play well outside of Waziristan.

Pizza Hut’s Cheese Isn’t Cheese
Just as some fast food places use beef patties or meat that lacks a lot of real meat, it seems Pizza Hut uses a silicone based chemical substance in its “cheese”. Ugh.
I’ve learned years ago to stay away from processed food. It’s generally bad for you in all sorts of ways, not just in weight gain. Not to mention that it usually doesn’t hold a candle in flavor to good home cooking with fresh ingredients.
UPDATE: Milkweed offers a retraction. Still, the cheese on some of these megachain’s pizzas is pretty bad.
Ancient Computer Ads
The sad thing is, I was around for all of these. But it shows how far we’ve come. Back in the 80s I used to dream about the computers we have today (though they still aren’t as fast as I imagined they’d be).
