Absurdity Dujour

In one of history’s more absurd acts of totalitarianism, China has banned Buddhist monks in Tibet from reincarnating without government permission. According to a statement issued by the State Administration for Religious Affairs, the law, which goes into effect next month and strictly stipulates the procedures by which one is to reincarnate, is “an important move to institutionalize management of reincarnation.”

  3. This becomes understandable if you know that the qualification for the office of lama in Tibet is being the reincarnation of a previous lama.  The Communists are trying to control the succession of authority in Tibetan Buddhism.

    Still—“the Party’s will be done, in heaven as it is on earth” deserves loud and prolonged laughter ...
