American Idol Top 3

We’re down to the penultimate episode before the finale. Three singers, singing three songs. Here’s how I saw it.

David Cook was the best of the three by far. He gave two of his songs a signature stamp. I think his version of “The First Time Ever I saw Your Face” was excellent. His closing song was also superb.

Syesha was second best in my opinion, but she will probably not be back next week. I liked what she did better than David A. But she could have done better.

David A has the teen vote sown up so he will be back next week. He sang each of his songs well, but there was nothing surprising or amazing about it. It was more or less what we expect from him except the Chris Brown song “My Boo” which I felt was kind of lame. But the song is pretty weak anyway.

As most of us have surmised, next week will probably be the two Davids duking it out. As far as I’m concerned Cook should win. But we’ll have to see how both of them do next week. I just hope the winners song isn’t as bad as some of them have been in past years. 

1. I agree with your commentary. I’m actually looking forward to a Dave Cook CD. I like him alot. He might be better off if he comes in 2nd just so he won’t have to sing the annual sappy song.

2. I, too, am looking forward to a David Cook cd. He sounds great on most of the studio-length versions.
   I feel the final will be split between teeny-boppers voting for little David and the older set voting for David Cook...I have a feeling the younger fingers are going to win.
   I just can’t imagine a concert, though, where little david has to come out to do a solo set after David Cook has done his. For me it would be extremely anti-climatic...but I suppose it won’t be for all the little ones attending and that’s cool. They need a clean, non-vulgar entertainer these days...so kudos to the Davids.

3. David A is like a throwback to early Donny Osmond who has a huge teen idol in the early 70s. One of my sisters had a big crush on him.

   Cook does have a lot of fans, too. And some of them are teens, also. So we shall see next week.

   I noticed Cook had bigger crowds back home. But he could come from a bigger town. No one had the kind of crowds Taylor did.

4. American Idol just got boring for me.  Syesha added a little spark because I didn’t know what she would sing.  Both Davids are predictable.  I don’t like Cook’s music and Archuleta’s doesn’t hold my attention.  Somehow, I think those “most talent we’ve ever had” singers slipped through AI’s fingers.

   I think David A. will win because those teeny-boppers have the fastest texting fingers.

5. Cook occasionally does something really good. I liked his version of the Roberta Flack song TFTEISYF. I will check out his CD when he makes one. I usually sample AI CDs when they come out. Not so much last years people. Though I did download a couple tracks from Jordan and Blake. This year, shrug. I’ll wait and see what they do.

6. I just read that Taylor will be joining the Broadway cast of Grease on June 6th, as Teen Angel.

   This summer he plans to finish an album - his way.
