American Tourists are…?
Don’t believe the self-hating anti-American hype you hear from the usual clods.
The best tourists in the world are the Japanese, followed by Americans and the Swiss, a survey based on views from hoteliers across Europe said Wednesday.
Japanese tourists stood out for being polite and tidy, securing 35 percent more votes than the Americans who came second.
Swiss tourists were commended for being quiet and considerate, unlike the Britons who were judged to be the fifth worst tourists because of rude behavior, noise and a miserly attitude to tipping.
But despite their faults, hoteliers do look favorably upon British spending habits voting them the third biggest holiday spenders after Americans and Russians.
Reminds me off all the joking the Euros do about “fat Americans,” as if the EU is full of Callista Flockhart clones. Sorry guys, I’ve been to Europe and you guys give us a pretty hard run for the money in terms of fat people, especially in places like England, Germany and Yugoslavia.
A beach full of German tourists is not a pretty sight.Posted by on 06/08 at 06:10 PMYou’ve been to Yugoslavia?
Posted by James Hudnall on 06/08 at 06:13 PMAs cliche as it sounds, the absolute worst tourists I ever ran into were the Germans. No matter where I was in S.E Asia, the Germans were without a doubt some of the rudest people I’d ever run into.
Australians always gave me a hard time, too, but I expect that was more because they were pretty vocal in their Anti-Americanism. Canadians tend to be anti-American too, but they’re such nice people when they let you know it.
S.E Asia is a very bizarre place to be an ex-pat. The ex-pat subcultures that have been in place since way back when are worthy of an anthropological survey.
Posted by on 06/08 at 07:16 PMWent there for a SF con many long years ago, back when there was a Yugoslavia. Didn’t have the money to stick around for very long, alas. It was in Zagreb.

Yeah ... but it sure is funny!
Posted by on 06/09 at 03:23 PMI live in Vegas, which a town where you’d expect a lot of fat people to live. But both here and San Diego, where I go a lot, I do not see a lot of fat people when ever I look around. I know they exist (ironic smile) ut I think that obesity epidemic crap is another government propaganda effort.
When ever I travel, everyone I see for the most part, look pretty average. What they call obese is nothing of the kind.
Posted by James Hudnall on 06/09 at 03:30 PMYeah ... it’s all a big hoax!

... but honestly, I agree, I don’t see all that many obese people on the streets either ... but maybe I’m just not looking in the right places - like McDonalds aso ... ???
