Another UN Scam

If GW isn’t enough, or their proposed “poverty tax” on rich nations, how about this?

Hitherto, tap water had always been free.  Well think again...on March 22, a glass of tap water will cost $1 in some of New York’s finest restaurants including Le Bernardin and Asia de Cuba as well as in small eateries, such as the little Vesuvio bakery in SoHo. Ridiculous? Who would ever charge for tap water?

Before you take offense to this extra charge, know that this is all for a good cause. This is a UNICEF project aimed at saving lives by providing safe drinking water to children around the world. UNICEF say that with $1, they can provide 40 litres of safe drinking water, which is enough to give one child safe drinking water for 40 days, or forty children safe drinking water for one day. With $1, they can provide 100 water purification tablets to provide clean water for children in crisis situations.

Yes, that’s right, they will charge you $1 for tap water which will go to their charity, which supposedly will go to “the children”. Remember the Oil for Food Scandal? Saddam’s Oil was supposed to pay for food that was to go to the Iraqi children. That was another UN project. We know how well that went. The UN seems to exist for one purpose only: guilting liberals in rich countries into handing over all their and our money.

I wonder how many kids will actually benefit from this project.

(I should add that I’m not against restaurants voluntarily doing this, but where the UN is concerned I am always suspicious of their motives. Bad track record.)

  1. So let me get this straight—They charge you $1 for a glass of toxin-filled water (chlorine and fluoride) to promote safe drinking water?

    Brilliant…

Apparently, I’m in the wrong business.

  2. So we’re supposed to give money to the UN to “do good.” Jim has listed many of the UN’s more egregious cases of corruption before (what do you expect from an outfit staffed and operated mainly by Third World bureaucrats?) but here’s the latest:
    http://tinyurl.com/2snntf
Lede: “ Nearly two years after a FOX News story led to the discovery of widespread corruption in the United Nations’ multi-billion-dollar procurement department, revelations in a U.S. federal courtroom last week by one of the corrupt U.N. officials testifying against another show that the rot continues.”
Not one thin dime for these scum.
