Carbon Clown of the Day
Last night, Al Gore’s global-warming documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, collected an Oscar for best documentary feature, but the Tennessee Center for Policy Research has found that Gore deserves a gold statue for hypocrisy.
Gore’s mansion, located in the posh Belle Meade area of Nashville, consumes more electricity every month than the average American household uses in an entire year, according to the Nashville Electric Service (NES).
In his documentary, the former Vice President calls on Americans to conserve energy by reducing electricity consumption at home.
None of this is a surprise to me. The GW movement is run by some of biggest hypocrites on earth. They know it’s a scam. Which is why they don’t practice what they preach. But they want all the rest of us to cut our energy use. In 10 years we may have power rationing because of these zealots. Like they made smoking all but illegal and are trying to demonize food companies now. Energy will be the next bete noir of the scolds. We really need to fight back against this nonsense.
UPDATE: Now the MSM is pouncing on Gore.
“And the facts are this. Four and a half years ago Al Gore bought a large home and made it larger, but did very little to reduce his own energy consumption. Instead, he spent the same time telling you how to reduce yours.”
If those assbiscuits over on the east coast don’t stop freezing under all that snow, I’m going to start thinking they don’t believe in global warming. Hey, over there! Warm up at once, and that’s an order!!
Posted by Brin-Marie McLaughlin on 02/27 at 01:22 AMLike we didn’t know AG was a stone hypocrite. MSM will bury this one!
Posted by on 02/27 at 03:59 AMNow you know that I am not a GW proponent. But, I need to address this on a philisophical level.
the Tennessee Center for Policy Research is trying to proove what? That Gore’s message about global warming isn’t true?
Here’s a refresher course in logic that presumably even a Republican Think Tank in Tennessee should understand: the personal behavior of an advocate has no bearing whatsoever on whether the position, issue, concern being advocated is true or false. What decides the truth or falsity of a proposition are the facts.
If I say it’s wrong to steal, and then swipe an apple from a fruit stand, does that mean my statement that stealing is wrong is wrong? Was Jefferson’s veiws of liberty and freedom incorrect because he owned slaves? I can go on for pages, but you get the point.
Al Gore handled himself with dignity on the Oscar stage last night. He refrained from making any kind of political statement. He said we have a moral imperative to look into global warming. The key there is “look into” not “stop.”
This group, Tennessee Center for Policy Research, is as much a sham as any GW advocate. What they are doing is no better than what Gore is doing. In fact it worse. Gore is trying to raise awareness of an issue he feels strongly about. They are trying to bury it by attacking the person.
In the end we are all hypocrites, even Ghandi had some dark moments in his life. But that doesn’t mean he didn’t have anyting to teach us.
Posted by on 02/27 at 07:37 AMHere’s a couple things that are at issue.
Gore runs around claiming that even though he burns up lots of jet fuel traveling around lecturing, he makes up for it in other ways. Now we find out he doesn’t.
Gore seems to think GW is this huge emergency and we all need to radically cut back our energy use. There was an AIT website I linked to that had a carbon calculator that told you what you could do to change your evil ways.
There is nothing worse than a hypocritical scold. Especially one who wants people to make radical sacrifices when he doesn’t even bother. He can afford to green his house, at least. You’d think he would have done that more than a decade ago.
All these celebs to claim GW is this huge crisis do nothing to ofset it except drive a prius as their other car (mostly for image).
Posted by James Hudnall on 02/27 at 08:21 AMThe actual facts of the matter are available at http://thinkprogress.org/2007/02/26/gore-responds-to-drudge/ . Mr. Hudnall now owes his readers an apology for lying to them. The clock is ticking!
Posted by Jack Harkness on 02/27 at 09:35 AMNow, that site looks sketchy to me. Nay person who claims that there is no scientific debate about GW left is correct, only that it is a socio-politiical debate rather than a scientific one. among scientists, there is still a huge debate. Nothing is even remotely close to being solved. And that is just for global warming, it gets far more complicated when discussing Man-Made Global Warming.
But, the comments about Gore do make sense. Gore is pretty smart guy, despite what many people believe,it makes sense that he would offset his carbon emmissions since he has the money to do so.
There is nothing wrong with believing that one should reduce their carbon footprint. That seems very reasonable to me. I dont undertand why that offends you so much, Hud.
As for an apology...that isn’t neccessary. I dont think that your website is any more credible than Hud’s.
Unlike a scientific debate, this one cannot be prooved right or wrong.
-Testify!
Posted by on 02/27 at 09:55 AMThink Progress is the biggest propaganda site on the web. Talk about the kettle calling the pot black.
If Gore is carbon neutral, and he is doing all these green things in his house, as he claims, why is his energy bill so high? It looks like either he’s lying or he isn’t doing enough.
Furthermore, he travels around the world with this entourage, like a typical bureaucrat, burning tons of jet fuel to make appearances to promote his irresponsible film.
And yes, it’s irresponsible. Think Progress calls Drudge hysterical. But the fact is, AIT makes claims unsupported by the IPCC and other groups he cites. His projections are the worst kind of doom mongering and hysteria.
Posted by James Hudnall on 02/27 at 10:09 AMHis energy bill is “so high” in part because he pays more for cleaner energy, as is explained in the piece you’re aparently too cowardly to read. As for his travel, Gore travels commercially when he can and when he must travel privately buys carbon offsets to make up for it.
Testify!, this is in fact case where one can be right or wrong: I am right, and Mr. Hudnall is wrong, and he should apologize for misleading his readers with bad information.
Posted by Jack Harkness on 02/27 at 10:32 AMJack,
What are you, ten years old? You want to believe Al Gore is telling the truth inspite of the fact that he is a politician who has a history of telling huge lies.
Don’t be played.
Posted by on 02/27 at 10:39 AMDude, you really need to get over it. Drudge was wrong, the study he linked to was wrong, you’re wrong to keep flogging it, and I’m right.
Posted by Jack Harkness on 02/27 at 10:43 AMYour argument is that Al Gore explained something that I say he fails to explain satisfactorily and that makes me a liar?
I know a lot of people who have greened their houses and they have LOW electric bills as a result. That’s one of the benefits of greening. I have friends who do it for a living.
Either Gore is lying or he has done a bad job. Either way, explanations does not make fact.
You shouldn’t believe everything any politician says, just because he tells you want you want to hear.
Posted by on 02/27 at 10:54 AMThat latest MSM article about Gore’s hypocrisy is annoying. It concentrates very little on his obvious hypocrisy.
Instead it takes the typical liberal MSM jabs. Referring to the group that made light of his energy use as “obscure conservative think-tank.” And commenting on a spoof of Algore’s movies as being done by a group that has the backing of big oil.
Well I say fine, you want to list who levels the charge, go ahead and do it. But also pay fair time to the other side. Gore and his GW buddies are nothing but a bunch of socialists. Their belief is the government needs to step in and regulate how everyone lives. Gloabal warming is their vehicle.
Have you ever noticed that it’s not just man that is causing global warming but AMERICAN-man that’s doing it. Forget China, India, Russia, all of Europe, it’s America that’s the culprit.
To all you global warming nuts, if man is to blame for GW, and more specifically AMERCIAN-man, how come the temperature is also rising on Mars? Where are their SUV’s and 20-room houses that are making this “footprint” on the environment?
It’s all bunk.
Posted by on 02/27 at 12:56 PMI have never heard a free-form debate between Al Gore and ANY scientist. I guess hard facts are just too frightening for most politicians.
Posted by Brin-Marie McLaughlin on 02/27 at 01:21 PMBrin-Marie
It depends on the scientist. There are some notable scientists in both corners. it is that way because there are no HARD FACTS, just conjectures and circumstantial evidence.
Everyone here talks like they understand the nature of the universe. We dont. Every single law of physics has been broken at one point or another and 99% of the mass of the universe can not be accounted for.
Namaste!
Posted by on 02/27 at 02:51 PMThe major problem here is that even if Gore is buying “carbon credits,” he’s still polluting. Buying carbon credits is like paying a traffic ticket--you still committed the crime, you’re just paying off the system. It doesn’t magically wipe out the emissions (the major flaw in Kyoto).
Which means...he is a hypocrite, which, as any liberal will tell you, is the worst crime imaginable.
I know I’m a total broken record on this, but my position on GW is simple--by the data and arguments provided by the GW acolytes themselves, shutting down Western civilization completely would A) not have any effect on the slow climb in global temperatures for at least 50 years; and B) result in a reduction in the total temperature increase of less than their own margin of error in 100 years.
So...trying to “save the Earth” by any of their silly ideas like banning incandescent light bulbs is all a waste of time and money. Arguing models and forcing and global dimming and the rest is pointless when the bottom line is that nothing we can do will make a difference that matters, even if the GW folks are completely correct.
If we accept all they say as scientific fact, the logical conclusion is not hybrid cars and ethanol, but coping with the change.Posted by on 02/27 at 05:46 PMGlobal Warming would be a good thing, actually.
It would affect some people in low lying areas, but…

Posted by on 02/27 at 05:52 PMA fire-and-brimstone minister tells you not to sin...while he visits prostitutes.
A father tells his son that stealing is wrong...while he embezzles money from his job.
Al Gore tells us that we need to use less energy and fossil fuel...while he flies in a jet and uses an obscene amount of electricity for a mansion that, given his travels and speeches, he most likely doesn’t use very much.
It’s all hypocrisy. All of it. If Gore really wants to be taken seriously, he should do a bicycle tour of the US and show that it can be done.
Posted by Dave Marron on 02/28 at 11:36 AMHave you ever seen Gore’s preacher act? He would bring it out whenever talking to a black audience. He tried to channel Al Sharpton. How appropo
Posted by on 02/28 at 11:42 AMCome on, you’ve never read the IPCC report or seen AIT. PLease.
Posted by on 03/01 at 11:01 AMYes I have. Which is why I think it’s crap.
I’ve also done more research than some of these alleged scientists.
