Cartoon Campaign Ads

One from the Republicans in the 50s

One from the Democrats in 1960

Gee, I wish today’s ads were as cheerful as these. I get sick of all the attack ads.

  1. Hey Hud, no post on how Palin abused her power and violated Alaska’s ethics code?

  2. Why? They say she didn’t break any laws, and that report was obviously a Democrat stunt before the election.

“The abuse of power” they claim she did was letting her husband try to get the guy fired, not what she did.

  3. “Ike for President” if I remember correctly was actually produced by Roy Disney, Walt’s brother.

There was an earlier cartoon produced by Chuck Jones for one of the Roosevelt campaigns in the1940s.  It was included on a DVD (long out-of-print) that was part of the Cartoon Crazys series.  I could kick myself for not buying that DVD when it was available sometimes!
Both films are public domain but the Roosevelt ad is harder to find and most copies are poor quality.

  5. The attack ads are just one thing that’s turning me away from voting.  Neither side has anything positive to say, just nothing but negative scare tactics.  Just one reason I’ve become so apolitical.

Now, if McCain and Obama would just do something along the lines of these two commercials, things just MIGHT get interesting!  (The JibJab animations come close, but unfortunately, they don’t count.)
