  1. Could these guys be the next Trey Parker and Matt Stone?  smile

  2. I love how things like Youtube give budding film makers a place to air their stuff.

  3. Yeah!  Amid Amidi talked about the same exact thing over at Cartoon Brew.  He said that budding animators can have more creative freedom by showing their stuff on YouTube or even their own webpages, without relying on a middleman (such as Cartoon Network, which has stopped caring about making good cartoons, for the most part).

  4. I can’t even watch the cartoon network shows. And I love animation.

  5. Currently, the best cartoon on CN is THE VENTURE BROS (which is, needless to say, also the best show on Adult Swim).

In its heyday, the best CN shows for me were THE POWERPUFF GIRLS, DEXTER’S LAB and the JUSTICE LEAGUE stuff.

I have Boomerang on a new cable service, that channel is everything CN used to be, and then some!  (Incidentally, they give JUSTICE LEAGUE every night at 11pm!)

  6. Yeah, I like Boomarang. Never saw Venture brothers. I will check it out. I heard some good things.

I never liked Powerpuff Girls. A lot of these modern cartoons are way too limited in theri animation. It’s like, Southpark was a success so everyone decided crappy animation was good.

  7. Actually, POWERPUFF GIRLS goes waaay before SOUTH PARK (though they were technically concieved around the same time).  Craig McCracken based the show on a student film of his at CalArts in 1992 called WHOOPASS STEW!, which featured the then-named Whoopass Girls.  Craig was not kidding himself; The retro-style animation was indeed limited (moreso than the actual series), as he was inspired somewhat by classic TV anime, but also by MTV’s awesome STEVIE WASHINGTON (AKA: STEVIE & ZOYA) shorts from 1987.

But yes, I suggest you check out THE VENTURE BROS!  It’s one of the best cartoon shows in years!  (The pilot episode was done in Flash, BTW.)  It’s also great to see more animation talent coming from New York (where the Fleischers, Famous Studios and Terrytoons were based), and not just because I was from there.  smile
