Failed Scifi Shows
Man, some of these really stink. One of them is Dr Strange,
I dunno, I liked some of these (except for THE ARCHER, THE TRIBE and THE CLONE MASTER, which I’ve never been familiar with). I saw many of these pilots as a kid.
The DOCTOR STRANGE one was hokey, but the actor looked right for the part. I saw that film years ago.
Let’s face it, anything from Japan (even from the times these pilots were made) was 100 fold times more exciting for me.
Posted by John Cassidy on 04/06 at 10:29 AMI kept expecting the Tribe to make Ironic comments about car insurance.
My problem is a lot of this stuff had such cheesy effects, writing, acting and music. It was a dire time for SF fans.
I never saw the Archer pilot, but I was mainly complaining about the first two. The Man With the Power is so typical of the times.
Posted by on 04/06 at 12:31 PMTrue about THE TRIBE! (After the Geico commercials, people will never look at cavemen the same way again!)
I agree about THE MAN WITH THE POWER (which I thought was rather dull). I did like NORTHSTAR. EXO-MAN was a cheesy poor-man’s Iron-Man, but I thought the build up was pretty good. I actually enjoyed Leonard Nimoy’s BAFFLED! a lot. It was quite fascinating to see him do some other cool sci-fi role besides Mr. Spock, and thought that would’ve made a great series.
There was one other pilot that never got mentioned: 1984’s STEEL COLLAR MAN (with the late Charles Rocket as a naive Terminator/Steve Austin-type super-android in yet another FUGITIVE-style story)! I saw this waaaaay back when it premiered. (I liked the theme music, too!)

Posted by on 04/07 at 07:10 AMBetter fix that last comment Hud! I remember Dr. Strange and Exo-Man, but the rest are like WTF!
