Fantastic Four

Didn’t see it yet. The reviews were bad, but at least one friend of mine liked it. What did you all think?

It made close to $60 million opening weekend. Not bad.

  1. I’m boycotting the film.

They made Galactus into an evil cloud.  Essentially a cosmic fart with none of the personality or flair we’ve come to expect from Galactus.  I don’t like it when Hollywood people rewrite comic book mythology so they can save money on hiring an actor.

  2. It was pretty lackluster.

And fairly short - for a noon showing, I was out of the theater not too long after 2pm.  I’m wondering if there was some kind of plotline that was left on the cutting room floor…

I, too, was waiting for Galactus to show up in his Kirbyesque supervillain hat.  IIRR, the way the FF bested him originally was pretty much by moral authority...hard to do that when your opponent is a cloud…

It’s not so much as that, it seems that Hollywood finds the idea of a towering man in mechanical samurai/knight/viking armor to be ridiculous, and needs something more “realistic” and “believable” like a cloud.  And therein lies my problem with Hollywood, and its adaptations of classic comic-book fantasies.  They are not willing to have a suspension of disbelief.
