Fist of the North Star

I forgot to add this to my list of 80s TV shows. It’s very goofy and has limited animation, but I enjoyed watching it at the time. Fist of the North Star is about a Mad Max style future where the earth is a wasteland populated by crazed bikers and starving people looking for food. The twist is, these mutant bikers have super-powered martial arts. And the hero, Ken, who looks like Sylvester Stallone, has the power to make his enemies explode when he touches them. It’s a delayed reaction, so he often touches them then walks away. The bad guys say: “I’m going to kill you!” and Ken says: “You can’t because you’re already dead.” Then they explode. 

Like I said, it’s a silly show, but entertaining none the less. It was very popular. It was based on a manga by someone who went by the name Bronson.

Also, while you’re at it, why not compile a list of the best anime theme songs?  Anyways, like what you’re doing so far with all these anime discussions and lists.

You want to hear something funny? Gary Daniels, the star of this film, played one of my characters in a short film before he did this. I hung out with him a few times. We used to meet up at a theater in San Gabriel, CA where they played nothing but Asian films. We both liked HK martial arts movies.

He asked me about Fist of the North Star and I gave him my copy of the animated movie, which I never got back from him. Oh well.

Heh, that is interesting.  So I suppose you never heard from him again either?  You think your copy of the animated Fist of the North Star was shown to the cheap ass producer that made the live action film?

I’m sure they probably knew of it since they were making a Fist of the North Star movie.

A friend of mine managed Gary Daniels, then Daniels split off from him to make this movie. So my friend feels Daniels got what he deserved since my friend would have told him not to take that role.
