Hilarity Dujour
Behind the scenes: Lily Tomlin and director David O Russell on the set of the (craptacular film) I heart Huckabees.
That is the funniest thing. Better even than her standup routine. I especially like the part where he is screaming and comes in the side door yelling about being an adult. Hilarious.
Notice how she shuts up once he goes off?
Almost unnoticed is the 1st AD waving everyone off the set. Poor guy. Probably got yelled at for giving the crew an unauthorized break. No wonder this was a crappy movie.
Posted by on 03/26 at 07:33 PMRussell was listed as one of the most difficult directors working right now. Now that it’s all over YouTube, I wonder how long that’ll be.
Posted by on 03/26 at 08:31 PMI worked in Hollywood in the late 60’s and early 70’s. If this guy ever spoke to me in this fashion, I might be out of a job, but he would have a broken face.
I hope this gets a lot of airplay as I think that everyone can see for themselves what a horses ass he is.
Posted by on 03/26 at 09:14 PMHey, that was my favorite period of movies. Anything interesting your worked on?
Posted by on 03/26 at 09:17 PMLong story short: I was in high school and my best friend and I got in trouble and his mom got us jobs with her brother, a director. I ended up as his assistant because I could draw and was punctual.
We shot a bunch of pilots that never got made and episodes of Star Trek, Dan August and others over the summers.
I guess in the ‘old days’, creative differences were hashed out in private as I NEVER once saw anything like that; it would have been considered highly unprofessional.
Posted by on 03/27 at 04:46 AMThe director is obviously a people person.
Posted by on 03/27 at 05:10 AMStar Trek, that’s cool. Any good stories from the ste of that show? I remember Dan August.
Posted by James Hudnall on 03/27 at 09:27 AMAs almost everyones knows; Shattner is a huge scene-stealer. We were shooting on the bridge set and Shattner was supposed to come into bridge and DeForest Kelley was supposed to come up and remind him of something. Well take after take, Shattner enters the bridge and instead of waiting for Kelley to utter his lines, he immediately asks Kelley if he has the report or what ever it was. After a few more of these scene steals, Kelley stood there and when Shattner comes thru the door, Kelley is standing there flipping him the bird. Hilarious.
Posted by on 03/27 at 10:57 AMI just thought of this from Dan August; We were shooting outside of the old Knickerbocker Hotel in downtown LA. The scene was supposed to be between Burt Reynolds and this asian girl kissing in his car parked at the curb. We had the camera setup in the street and we dolly in to position and Burt gets in the car, the girl gets in the car and they start kissing. Well there were a couple of winos standing on the street hooting and hollering at them when they started kissing, of course ruining the take. So the first AD runs over to Burts trailer and grabs a couple of fifths and bribes the winos to move along so we could get the shot done.
Thats Hollywood.
