Hillary has started a whisper campaign to take down Barack Obama.

Are the American people ready for an elected president who was educated in a Madrassa as a young boy and has not been forthcoming about his Muslim heritage?

This is the question Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton’s camp is asking about Sen. Barack Obama.

An investigation of Mr. Obama by political opponents within the Democratic Party has discovered that Mr. Obama was raised as a Muslim by his stepfather in Indonesia. Sources close to the background check, which has not yet been released, said Mr. Obama, 45, spent at least four years in a so-called Madrassa, or Muslim seminary, in Indonesia.

“He was a Muslim, but he concealed it,” the source said. “His opponents within the Democrats hope this will become a major issue in the campaign.”

She can’t win, either way. But she’s doing a good job of showing us what she’s made of.

1. I can’t believe that by this time anybody doesn’t know what she’s made of.  But then I’ve had too many years of observing her in NY.  Maybe nobody else has paid that much attention.  She is going to rip him to shreds (or have others do so), and then ask him to be her running mate.  That is my prediction.

2. 1) This supposedly “discovered” information has been a matter of public record for years, in Obama’s already-published biography and other articles about him.

   2) The non-sourcing for this piece makes it far more likely that it is a Republican-planted story intended to stir up tension between Democrats who are supporters of Clinton and Obama, and slam Hilary in precisely the way you are going along and slamming her.

   3) Hilary can win. ANY Democrat can win in 2008 unless Bush & Cheney get us out of Iraq before then.

3. I wouldn’t bet on it. Don’t confuse Bush hatred with 2008 elections. It will be a moot point.

   And even top Democrats think Hillary isn’t electable.
