It’s the Sun, Stupid

I’ve been saying this or quite some time. The sun is causing recent warming on earth. The proof is on the planet Mars where, there are no humans or SUVs. The only made made vehicles are solar powered.

Earth is currently experiencing rapid warming, which the vast majority of climate scientists says is due to humans pumping huge amounts of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.

Mars, too, appears to be enjoying more mild and balmy temperatures.

In 2005 data from NASA’s Mars Global Surveyor and Odyssey missions revealed that the carbon dioxide “ice caps” near Mars’s south pole had been diminishing for three summers in a row.

Habibullo Abdussamatov, head of the St. Petersburg’s Pulkovo Astronomical Observatory in Russia, says the Mars data is evidence that the current global warming on Earth is being caused by changes in the sun.

“The long-term increase in solar irradiance is heating both Earth and Mars,” he said.

“One scientist’s controversial theory”.  This idea has been around for quite some time and makes much more logical sense than anthropogenic sources of global warming, AND there’s historical precedent for it. But Solar Output is considered the controversial theory. Only half of that article gave any attention to this new study, the other half gave full attention to his critics. Gotta love the objectivity.

I really hate the degree to which NO scientific thought is given in science mags anymore (NG is a science mag, more or less). It’s all about ideology.

No, it couldn’t be the sun!!!

Unless, wait—that’s it! All of our SUV pollution and other greenhouse gases have gone through the hole in the ozone layer and started to destroy the eco-system on Mars by raising the actual temperature of the Sun!!!

It’s no longer our moral duty to battle against global warming. No, we must now fight Interplanetary Warming!!!

Emphasis mine.

Vast majority… I.e. don’t dare dissent from this view point or you will be considered, in scientific terms, a big poopy-head. 

I blame the Republicans for Mars warming.

That vast majority argument is a logical fallacy. Actually, two in one.

1. Appeal to authority
2. Appeal to popularity

Both are meaningless. But more importantly, no one has proven that the vast majority of scientists believe this hornswaggle.  They just keep saying that over and over again, expecting people to believe it.
