Marine Boy

Besides Astro Boy, Kimba and Johnny Quest, this was one of my favorite cartoons of my childhood. It’s the only ocean based superhero I ever got into. Aquaman and Namor didn’t do much for me. On reflection, I think I know why now. If I ever got the chance to do one of those characters, I think I could make them interesting. 

1. Green Arrow was supporting cast all the way. Green Lantern could’ been a contenda. Same with Namor and Aquaman if they’d been handled right. Still, there is a good reason why Hal Jordan is held up as the best of the heroes.

2. Now, now, Hud, Aquaman and Namor are just characters created in a simpler time.  You’re beginning to sound like those cynical fanboys you criticize!

   But anyway, MARINE BOY looks really cool, from the bits and pieces I’ve seen!  It’s too bad this series is caught in legal limbo today, but it’s just as cool as any other 60s anime!  (Surprisingly, the mermaid girl is topless, yet discreetly covered by her arms and hair!)
