  1. Celine Dion’s big in Jamaica and Morocco (and probably a bunch of other places).

I’m in New York, no surprises there except both Bruce Springsteen and Robert Plant have albums out and people are still listening to Justin Timberlake’s last record. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

As far as the top artists, it’s less surprising that there are only two hip hop acts on NYs artist list, than the fact that there aren’t any non rappers of recent vintage. U2 is the youngest rock band on there and they were out when I was in High School (early eighties).

There are names I don’t recognize on the top album charts, though, plus High School Musical 2, Coheed and Cambria, Carrie Underwood, the new Radiohead album which is okay. I paid eight and change for it. Meant to pay five, but I didn’t realize it was pounds, not euros. (It’s a pay what you want deal on their site - Saul Williams and Trent Reznor has something similar going on now).

  2. Radiohead made $10 million, so far from that site. Record labels are no longer needed. Except to help new acts get noticed. But many new acts won’t sign with major labels anymore.

I am not surprised older acts are in the top 10. But I am surprised they are at the top of the top ten in many states.

I think that reflects badly on today’s talent.

  3. Very surprised also.  The Beatles are #1 in NC.

  4. If you check a lot of countries, they’re popular there, also.
