Oh, Happy Day!

The Immigration bill has gone down for the count, again. Needless to say, President clueless made another bone headed statement.

The Senate drove a stake Thursday through President Bush’s plan to legalize millions of unlawful immigrants, likely postponing major action on immigration until after the 2008 elections.

After the stinging political setback, Bush sounded resigned to defeat.

“Legal immigration is one of the top concerns of the American people, and Congress’ failure to act on it is a disappointment,” he said after an appearance in Newport, R.I. “A lot of us worked hard to see if we couldn’t find common ground. It didn’t work.”

A 400 page bill is not the answer to anything, as it was surely full of the worst kinds of pork and badly conceived notions imaginable. Many of them were.

This is a triumph for the voters, because resistance to this bill was overwhelming, yet so many in both parties tried to pass it. Fortunately, some were swayed by the people. Enough to kill the bill.

If they are really serious about immigration, they should first take the steps needed to secure our borders and enforce immigration laws. Then, when people are convinced they are serious, they should figure out how to del with the people already here. But the fact is, people who jump the line or break the law should not be given a free pass. They should either make immigration easier or create a better guest worker program.

Right now the system is broken. We need solutions, but not the pathetic ones they tried to pass.

  1. “but not the pathetic ones they tried to pass.”

That’s being too nice.  How about “the pathetic ones they tried every nefarious trick in the book to slip past a disapproving public.”

  2. Yes. And it shows the contempt they have for the people. Everyone for this bill, especially its authors, needs to go. Especially my state senator, Harry Reid.

The blogosphere helped defeat this bill. It should work to elect someone else in the next elections to replace these bozos.

  3. Calling them “bozos” is an insult to Larry Harmon. smile

  4. I’m suspect of any bill that’s designed by Ted “The Swimmer” Kennedy.
