One of my Problems with Obama
Personally, I have no problem with seeing a black president elected. Or a woman. A gay. A Hispanic or Asian. All I care about is are they competent to lead and do they have sound policies. One thing that turns me off completely is if they are racist.
I really detest identity politics. I have no problem with people being proud of their heritage or ethnicity, but when they make claims that it gives them some kind of superiority or special rights, they lose me. No group should have special status. Everyone should be equally protected under basic human rights and the constitution.
One of my big problems with Obama (besides some of his policies) is that he attended a racist church for 20 years, and he seems to have a problem with white people. According to his book, Dreams of my Father, he defined his grandparents as “typical white folk, racists”. Which in itself is a racist statement. But his book is full of similar quotes,
But that’s not all. Apparently, his wife is/was a racist herself. And her college thesis (which she had closed until after the election) is a denouncement of white America, which she defines as irredeemably racist and defines herself as a separationist. I realize she was just a college student and we all know who college students are often full of self righteous crap. But she’s done little to seem like someone who has grown up since then. She has this mega-bitch vibe and a chip on her shoulder the size of her state. If that’s who he’s married to, I don’t think that reflects well on his mentality.
So I can’t support Obama, and I find myself writing more about him on here than McCain. Because the idea of a racist president, no matter what color he is, is repugnant to me.
Yes, I’m sure many Democrats reading this will say “What about Bush or (name a Republican)?”. The answer is, I don’t know of any examples of any President being openly racist in these times. Not as openly as Obama has. Sorry.
I’m not a McCain fan either, and not because he’s “too liberal” but because he is too reactionary and autocratic at times. I disagree with him on a host of issues. Thing like the McCain/Feingold bill are unconstitutional and unforgivable. But if I am forced to choose between him and Obama at this point, it’s easy for me to choose sides.
UPDATE: Myths of the Obamacans. He isn’t getting that many Republicans, despite what they tell you.
Well said James..on a personal note I know two Obamatrons. When they found out that I was against Obama the first thing they asked me was my opposition to him rooted in his being black. My response to both was to suggest that Obama’s new campiagn slogan be changed to “Barack Obama..vote for me or else you’re a racist”. My reasons for opposing Obama are many—like you pointed out he has spent 20 years in a racist church and had the nerve to take Americans as idiots by stating he had no idea that Rev. Wright had said such things..despite the fact that Wright had a radio show, sold his sermons online, published a weekly bulletin and a monthly magazine which all reflected his racist view. He has lied about his association with william ayers , an unrepentant domestic terrorists and avowed Marxist. He can’t seem to take a position and stick to it , especially when he is criticized for it. And finally I just don’t trust mass movements built on a cult of personality. I’m truly scared for my country.
Posted by on 08/16 at 06:32 AMThe cult of personality thing bugs me to. Whenever I see that I run the other way.
But his cult isn’t as big as the media wants us to believe. If he’s even with McCain in the polls now, he’s probably 15% to 20% behind, since poll numbers at this stage are usually way ahead for Democrat candidates. Then they close up as the election nears. It seems he is losing independents like me.
Posted by on 08/16 at 08:33 AMPerhaps someone can explain to me why Obama is considered a “black man” when he’s 50% white. One could just as accurately say “You’re only voting for him because he’s white” as “You’re only voting for him because he’s black.”
Personally, I’m not voting for him because he’s paralytically PC communist moron who really does seem to believe he’s some sort of messiah.Posted by on 08/16 at 03:31 PMObama says in his book that he identifies with his father’s race. Even though his father abandoned him as a young boy and he only say the goat herder one other time. Where as he was raised by his white mom and white grandparents. He is kind of like those light skinned blacks who try to over compensate to be accepted by their community. I think Obama joined his church so he could be accepted as not being too white. But by doing that, he basically sold out to black racism.
There’s no place for race hustlers in our society. They need to be pushed out of power wherever they are. And it seems, they are. Jesse and Al are becoming more irrelevant as time goes by.
Posted by on 08/16 at 05:49 PMWhy do so many people make a big show of their minority status? Because, overall, it’s a benefit in current society, not a detriment.
Obama’s treatment of the people who loved and raised him would, by itself, be enough for me to refuse to vote for him. Despicable.Posted by on 08/16 at 09:36 PM
