Pretty Disturbing

The need the internet more than ever as this chart shows. We’ve gone from 50 companies to five who control the media in this country. We need more divirsity. As a creative person, I can tell you that places to sell books or comics, as the case may be has become very restrictive because of consolidation. It’s not a good thing and it really has a lot to do with the quality of what’s being offered to consumers.

But more importantly, the so called news media is coming from so few places, this is very bad.

Thank god for the internet and the variety it offers.

  1. The thing is Hud that companies and individuals STILL want to consolidate control over the Internet.  And it’s not as impossible to do so as many might think.

There’s no question certain companies (MS, Yahoo, Google) are looking to control downloadable content/gateway services, and that in their quest for even more money, national governments (INCLUDING ours) and international bodies (UN) want to impose taxes on the Net.

It’s all about control and money.

I hate it, but we’ve got enough ignorant people that believe every problem in the world will be solved by giving governments more money and handing over more of our rights to conglomerates and governments.  The minority of us that understand the dangers of letting these dopes and ideological descendants of Plato (re: Left-Wingers and Socialists) get their way are in many ways fighting a losing battle.

If only more of us understood what “personal responsibility” means.  Responsible peopple just don’t breed as fast as ignorant people and people that are indoctrinated to believe a larger federal authority is the solution to everything.

It’s so stupid to give control of your life over to somebody else.  Frankly, that’s been the legacy of welfare and taxation.

  2. Oh, I am well ware of this. Fortunately, the people on the internet are a feisty lot. They are credited for making a lot of changes, such as helping defeat many bills like the Immigration bill. Let’s hope that trend of fighting back continues.
