Republican ABC Debate Wrap Up

Romney shot himself in the foot by coming off both defensive and smug. He had this smirk on his face when almost everyone else was talking. I was never a fan but now I actively dislike him.

Huckabee didn’t come off any better. I don’t think he’ll sway too many NH residents.

Giuliani came off pretty decent, but once again it was all about 9/11. He’s sounding too much like a one note guy. He did OK explaining his immigration stance but I don’t think he came off great.

McCain was funny and did well enough to secure a win in NH as the polls are showing at this time. He did a poor job defending his amnesty immigration bill, though.

Ron Paul came off at a disadvantage as everyone kind of made fun of him and mocked his positions. Frankly, his foreign policy statements were naive. Whatever a terrorist says as the reason they attacked us is meaningless. What people say and do are two different things. They would have an excuse no matter what since many of the nations they attack aren’t occupying their countries. When did Bali ever attack them?

Finally, Fred came off well. He seemed the most reasoned and mature of them all. However, I don’t know if he will sway anyone else to vote for him. I am still rooting for Fred because he seems the most level headed and pragmatic of all these guys. I don’t know if he’ll be exciting enough to draw more people to his candidacy. I think he won the debate. But the heat may all be on McCain and maybe Rudy.  Huckabee won’t win in NH. Depending on how bad he loses, he may have seen his last hurrah.

Next up, the Democrat Debate. I’m watching it now. I think, so far, Obama will come away the winner because he seems the most presidential. He’s also the more likable one. Richardson just doesn’t look like a president. He looks like a typical bureaucrat.

  1. I came in an hour late into the repub part.

I think Edwards kinda took control of this debate on the democrat side. I’m kinda rooting for Obama (Though whether I’d vote for him in the general election would depend on who he’s running against), but he stammers a bit in debates.

The media is gonna try to make hay out of Edwards and Obama double teaming her, but she invited it. I don’t know if on purpose or if she was actually trying to turn them against each other.

Richardson doesn’t seem like he’s trying to win. Like he’s hoping the winner will give him the VP slot. I could be wrong, but I think he trumps Clinton in experience. But perhaps he’s letting her be the experience candidate cuz that concept isn’t really working.

  2. Yeah, they were very smooth when they talked about change and her response was angry and defensive. She came off bad.

Edwards was showboating this debate. Richardson is running for VP. He would probably be a good VP choice for any of them.

Obama came off classy compared to Edwards and Hillary. I think she hurt herself.

  3. Thought you might want to read this from Pat Buchanan.

  4. I disagree with Buchanan on a lot of things. But he is mostly right here. One of the problems I have with Bush is he is like his father in that he is an elitist who lives in a bubble from the real world. W comes off more down to earth than his dad, but that’s an illusion. He is just as out of touch with the people. And he has really damaged the Republican party.

Obama appeals to a lot of people because he seems like a fresh approach to things. However, I don’t think a lot of his positions are anything new.

It’s looking now that the choices on the Republican side are Rudy, McCain, Mitt and Huckabee in that order. By Feb 5th we should know who the nominee stands to be. None of them are small government types. They’re all statists to one degree or another. So, we’re pretty much screwed any way you look at it.

  5. FRED! is the only hope for the growth and security of our nation. If the Democrats retain such power as they have, or God forbid increase it, we as a nation are lost. Wealth redistribution does not work as a positive reasoning to suceed. The more you suceed, the more you give up to others. I would truly love to see a utopian society, but said society would require ALL to do the best they could. So long as you work, you eat. You sponge, you die. Whatever you want is there. There are no tarpaper shacks, every home constructed is good. Every car has all the options. NObody wants, because EVERYbody produces to their utmost. For the good of all, realizing that they have EVERYthing they could ask for because SOMEbody makes it. To bad that humanity doesn’t work that way. Capitalism and the free market may suck, but they are FAR better than anything else out there.
