Republican Debate 10/21

I just watched the debate and I have to say, Thompson did a lot better, but once again Rudy stole the show with his sense of humor. McCain also shined, but aside from some great one liners, he dodn’t score any points. Paul continued to alienate the mainstream conservatives and gt a lot of boos.

Everyone was united in their distaste for Hillary. They all seem to be running against her even though her nomination isn’t sealed, Dean looked like he was going to win the nomination this time last election. Didn’t happen.

Tancredo seemed weak. Hunter and Huckabee got some good shots in, but didn’t stand out in any way. Romney was his usual self, slick and assured. But I think Giuliani solidified himself tonight and Thompson may have given himself a bump. Thompson pointed out all of Giuliani’s liberal positiosn and Rudy didn’t refute any of them, merely attacked Thompson on tort reform. I think that leaves room for Thompson to keep digging.

Thompson also seemed better and looked better than last time. He did good in his exit interview as well.

Romney’s best speech was when he described why he was more qualified than Hillary to be president. I think he continues to look solid, but Rudy outshines him as a personality and sense of humor. That ability to make jokes can go along way. It probably got Reagen elected versus the humorless Jimmy Carter. Hillary is about as funny as a tax audit. So whoever gets the nomination needs to verbally dance around her.

Both Thompson and Rudy show that ability. So does McCain, but I don’t see him getting the nomination. McCain/Feingold is a scarlet letter that he will wear the rest of his career.
