REVIEW: August Rush

I just watched an incredible film that came out last year and is out on DVD now. I heard it was really good so I finally got around to watching it. It’s the story of a young boy who grew up in an orphanage who is looking for his parents. They don’t even know he’s alive. Both of them are musicians and the boy is a musical prodigy. The story is how they all are reunited. It’s really a fantastical story but extremely well done and full of great actors.

If you haven’t seen this film, you should check it out. It’s both heartwarming and full of great music. Robin Williams is in it as a Fagin type character who takes the kid in at one point. This is one of those rare movies where we see Robin Williams be someone else, and show he can really act. It also features Terrance Howard and Keri Russell.

See it. You’ll be glad you did.

I also recommend as a double feature, Across the Universe. An excellent musical featuring Beatles music. They really did an amazing job with that one.

  1. I’ll have to check out August Rush. I keep passing it by at the video store waiting for the right mood to hit.
I really enjoyed Across the Universe, which surprised me. I started out with a pretty jaded attitude about it at first, expecting to be disappointed, but it was really good. I watched it three times before returning it.
Dana Fuchs as Sexy Sadie did an awesome job. She has a great voice. She has more of her own music up on her myspace. She’s a talented lady.

  2. I agree. I went into it thinking it would be kind of lame or so so. And it actually sent chills through me in a couple places. Very well done. And even handed as far as th 60s go. I was expecting an anti-war movie, but it was actually semi-critical of leftists of that era
