  1. Some of those are pretty funny.

For the last decade or so, the “rice burger” has been making huge in roads in places like HK and Japan and China. A Japanese chain called Mo Burger specializes in doing Asian-style “burgers”, taking such dishes as sukiyaki or chichen teriyaki and squeezing them between two pasteboard-like slabs of rice patties as shown in the HK picture from the linked page. McDonalds only recently started to get in on the rice burger trend when Mo Burger suddenly started overtaking them in popularity.

Some other fun McD’s dishes not on the page: The Pineapple Pie, featured every Chinese New Year and Rice Bowls, similar to those served in the Yoshinoya chains.

You can get an even larger sampling of bizarre localized foods by going to directly to that regions McDonald’s website. (The McDonalds India site has some really off-the-wall dishes).

  2. I am going to India and Hong Kong for my new job, so maybe I will check them out.

  3. To tie this together, one of the Chinese pollution pictures ( the traffic jam of taxi’s ) there are a couple of umbrella carts in the background with the McDonalds logo visible.

  4. Quite amusing. Here in Indonesia you can get fried chicken, rice (of course), and spaghetti. Only a couple of the American burgers. They also deliver.
