Rudy Ad
I normally don’t endorse politicians, but I think Rudy Giuliani is the best man for the job that I’ve seen right now. he has the leadership qualities. He has the track record. He has the communication skills a president needs. And as we’ve seen with Bush, they are greatly needed.
I don’t agree with him on everything, but that’s true of any politician. However, he did a couple of wonderful things as mayor of New York. He tamed an tamable city and he showed great leadership under 9/11 from the get go. He’s a take charge kind of leader and he gets the job done. He’s also a fiscal conservative and we really need that after Bush.
I know many people have issues with the man. I hear you. But of the people we’ve seen so far, only Fred Thompson is an alternative I could get behind and he isn’t running yet. I still favor Giuliani because he’s actually proven his leadership skills under fire. So I’ll be running a campaign banner on the right for awhile.
This one.
It will be interesting to see how much he sticks to his guns. If he stays pro-choice, anti-gun then he has my vote.
If he gives that up for the Christian vote, then he’s out. I am guessing that he is too moderate and Rove will put a stop to him.
Otherwise, I think he is fantastic. He is a better democrat than any democratic candidate thats for sure.
Posted by on 03/28 at 03:07 PMWell, being anti-gun is one position I oppose him on. I am against anything anti-constitutional and the courts have said anti-gun laws are anti-constitutional.
Here’s one area that makes me laugh when liberals say they are for rights, but then try to deny people the right to own a gun or smoke, or shop with plastic bags, etc.
Posted by on 03/28 at 03:31 PMGiuliani’s my favorite candidate, so far, though I kinda miss the old Times Square a little. I’m another democrat, and as long as he doesn’t threaten (or promise) any constitutional amendments (one reason I voted against Bush and can’t vote for Hillary), he’ll likely get my vote. Unless someone better comes along.
Most of Rudy’s negatives for most of you guys are obviously positives for more left leaning guys like me, though I’m not anti-gun (anymore).
Obama’s a nice guy from what I can tell, and if there wasn’t a war going on, I might give him a chance.

Only if he pulls a rectal-cranial conversion regarding National Defense, that’s the big blind spot for most Libertarians (note the catital L).
Posted by on 03/29 at 08:39 AMRu-Giu is so far refusing to give a live telephone interview to any of the hosts of the radio stations I listen to. I’m not going to commit to hiring somebody who won’t even talk to me. As soon as I hear him field one-on-one questions from the public, I’ll revisit this.
Posted by Brin McLaughlin on 03/29 at 09:34 AMHud, why do you use the world liberal as a synonim for left-winger. In my dictionary, it is a same as libertarian, someone who believes in free trade(riight wing, yeah!) and a lot of civil liberties. It has nothing to do with anti-gun or any other anti-freedom.
Posted by on 03/29 at 10:05 AMVash,
You are correct that the dictionary definition is one thing. By that definition, I am a liberal. However, the word has been corrupted over here to mean leftist. The leftist co-opted the word, even though most of them are anything but liberal (or progressive, another word corrupted).
So called liberals in the US have mostly been against gun ownership (or they use the bogus guns should only be allowed for hunting argument). But, yes, most of those people are in fact leftists.
And it’s interesting to note that while leftists don’t want anyone to own a gun, they love to praise revolutionaries who go around killing and terrorizing innocent people. A lot of leftist propaganda art shows them holding up machine guns.
(Yeah, I know those are extreme radicals, but the lines re getting awfully blurred these days)
Posted by on 03/29 at 11:34 AMRudy Guiliani, although running as a Republican, is actually more of a conservative Democrat. I particularly like his fiscal policies, but am, like you Hud, against his position on guns. Nevertheless, at this point, he’s the only choice for a Democrat like myself.
Posted by on 03/29 at 11:41 AMI am surprised by the amounts of conservative demorats on this site.
Do you guys think that Rudy will get slammed pretty hard for his affair while in office? or did Clinton lower the bar to the point that it a president is allowed to have an affair, just isn’t allowed to lie about it?
And i am really genuine in asking this question. I am not trying to be snarky.
Posted by on 03/29 at 12:13 PMClinton was attacked on his affairs because he was such a blatant liar about it (finger wag on TV, he’s an obvious dawg). Once someone denies something forcefully and gets caught, the media goes into a feeding frenzy.
He was also the let’s Bush. He made conservatives hate him as much as lefties hate Bush. But Clinton was more smug and self righteous about it. Claiming he would have the most open government, then tried to block and stone wall every investigation into his administration (and there were a hell of a lot more, and more serious ones, than into Bush).
So, as far as Giuliani goes, it’s old news and he doesn’t deny anything. So no, I don’t think so.
As far as conservative Democrats. I think most people in this country are somewhere in the center. I know I am. And I mean the real center not the fake center that people on the left try to claim is the center (like saying Bill Maher is in the ceenter. Har de har har).
Posted by on 03/29 at 05:09 PMI’m a fairly liberal democrat, so not only did I not mind Clinton’s Monica issues, I ended up liking him more (never voted for him, though). That was less an endorsement of his behavior, than a backlash against the reaction to it.
I’d like to believe Rudy can make it through the primaries, but I still have my doubts.
Posted by Edshugeo The GodMoor on 03/29 at 06:38 PMIf Rudy and Fred Thompson team up the Dems are in trouble. As far as Rudy surviving the primaries, we’ll see.
If the Dems try to attack his personal life they will look hypocritical. If the Republicans do he might get more sympathy than hate.
