Scam of the Day

In this NBC video, they try to sell us on the idea that arctic ice is melting. Except there are penguins in the videos. That’s ANTarctica. The South Pole. And it’s seasonal that ice melts at the poles at certain times of the year. Around the time scamsters like this try to sell us Global Warming hype. 

1. That penguins-in-the-Arctic was actually used as the clue for an Encyclopedia Brown story, way back in the day.

2. The ozone hole loonies used to pull this trick, too.  The hole is a natural phenomena primarily driven by sunlight--during the antarctic summer, the hole shrinks as UV converts O2 to ozone.  So every year, once winter came, they would rush out a bunch of PRs weebling over how the “hole is expanding again!” It was so pathetically transparent that only the tools at the MSM could have fallen for it.

3. Oh Toren,

   It’s been a long time since you were in college, right?

   Back in the early 1990s when I was in college, I had biology professors preaching global warming and the ozone hole as Scripture!  Bad enough that the usual loonies say this stuff, but when it’s a stuffed shirt, people tend to listen.

   What’s more, one of my favorite shows also preaches this crap but from the backend in the future.  Futurama’s had Al Gore on 4-5 times already not including the recently released direct-to-video movie?  Of course, it doesn’t hurt that Gore’s daughter (Kristen) is a staff writer for that show but nepotism never hurt too much as long as you’re connected to a shill who’s worshipped in industry…

4. Fortunately, I’ve never been in college.  One was not expected to go when I graduated from high school back in the late 70s, unlike today where you have to go to get your GED equivalent.
   I wrote extensively on the ozone hole back during the peak of the hysteria, and even got an editorial published in the Examiner.  I got only one phone call--from a UC Berkeley physics prof who thought I was the bee’s knees for daring to speak out.  I had really expected a flood of outraged calls.  Pity.

   Yeah, this ozone/global warming is all about the money for a bunch of scientists.

   Call me cynical, but they have to justify their research grants from the government.  LYING about the facts and overblowing data does justify the means, doesn’t it?

   Most of my professors weren’t THAT bad, but we did have a few true-believers, no doubt.

   Not surprisingly, they were also liberal democrats…

   As in, it’s okay to lie about it. How can you take ANY of it seriously, then?
