Taylor Hicks Dropped
Poor Taylor. His CD didn’t have any hits and now the record company (J records) have dropped him.
The problem with Taylor is he’s a great performer, but his music hasn’t really set the world on fire. I like his songs, but he needs to make something more dancable. People remember him as wild and crazy Taylor from American Idol. And since then he has been pretty low key and quiet. In the performing world, you have toi stand out and be noticed.
I hope he does better with his next CD. These days, you don’t really need a record deal anyway. The internet makes all kinds of things possible.
Clive Davis tried to make Hicks into a pop artist. That was never going to work.
I’m not so sure one has to really “stand out” as you suggest. The model I reference often is Bonnie Rait. Took her many, many years before she “stood out” with the Nick of Time album. She’s still on the road and doing well for herself.
Taylor is a soul/blues artist and, if he can stay true to that he should do well. Lord knows there’s enough baby boomers with money to spend who want some good stuff to listen to.

Bucky has done OK. So has Kellie. And Elliot has two CDs out now. Daughtry is on tour with Bon Jovi. Mandisa and Paris have CDs (Paris’ is pretty bad.). Some of the others have CDs, too.
So even though season 5 winners weren’t the biggest hitters (except maybe Daughtry) they all got some kind of deal.
I think many of them have a chance at stardom. There was a lot of talent that season. It all depends on the songs they get to do. Just like on the show.
