The Power of Nightmares

I highly recommend this BBC documentary, the Power of Nightmares, even though some of its arguments are based on false statements. Unlike a Michael Moore movie, the arguments this film makes are well reasoned and based mostly on facts. It’s over all conclusions, I agree with. Just not some of its claims.

What it says is elites in our government have created a war based largely on myths. The global threat of terror is not what they make it out to be. And in some ways, they are making it worse. Yes, I know this is a left wing argument, but it is largely true. Just as the Soviet threat was not what they made it out to be during the cold war. The film doesn’t say that there are no terrorists, but rather, that the whole thing is way overblown. What distinguishes this film from many others, is it attributes good intentions to the Neo-Cons, but points out that their arguments are seriously flawed.

But the reason I am recommending it isn’t because I am in complete agreement with it (I’m not), but rather that the arguments it uses about elites creating myths to steer the public is a fact. And this technique is applied also to man-made global warming. Watch this movie with GW in mind and you will see what I mean. Just as the elites on the right create their myths, so does the left create ones of their own. Both sides aren’t being completely honest with us. They are both trying to lead us down a path that isn’t in our best interest. It’s in their interest. Which is why I am an independent and always have been.

Leaders tell you want you want to hear (if you swing that way) because they are trying to manipulate you into doing what they want. But look at their actions. That often belies what they said.

If you have broadband and a DVD burner in your computer, I recommend downloading the ISO file and making a DVD. It’ at the bottom of the page. I always find it better to watch something longer on a TV than a computer. It’s a three part documentary.

(My biggest problems with the film are the claim that al Qaeda was never mentioned until 9/11. When in fact, they first came up after the Cole bombing. Also, the claim that there was no real proof against Clinton for anything is very misleading. I would fast forward through the whole Clinton part)
