Who Owns the National Debt

This pie chart dispels many myths on the subject. Most of the debt is owned by the US and tax payers. Only a quarter or so is owed to various countries. Japan being the biggest (7%) and China, second (4%).

  1. The government can’t owe money to itself and claim it as an asset and more than I can lend myself $100 at 5% interest and start building my fortune.  That wedge of the pie needs to be removed to present an accurate picture.
Typical government accounting practice--smoke and mirrors.
