Why Stateism Doesn’t Work

Government run schools are mired in corrupt unions and bureaucracies. The Democrats are constantly fighting against charter schools because the Dems support failed systems that are based on socialistic policies. Decades of failing government systems have led to this mess.  You need competitiveness to ensure some kind of standards. Private or charter schools are more likely to handle education in a superior fashion because they’re competing against other schools. When schools are ruled by one state bureaucracy, you see them fail as resources are distributed unevenly. Schools in poor areas always get shorted. And government employees tend not to care about work because they can’t be fired.

I know it’s not the same everywhere. Public teachers have many restriction on them, because the schools are afraid of lawsuits. They are limited in their ability to dicipline students, for example. Which is another reason why we should reassess how we do things. If the state makes it impossible for teachers to do their job, the state should get out of the way.

The public demands better education. The government will fail to provide it the more inept and inefficient their bureaucracies become, leaving way for charter schools to fill the gap. The only thing standing in the way are stateist politicians.

Let’s hope the Democrats wise up and stop blocking charter schools.

  1. Amen, Hud, amen.

I see all these teenagers around me and I have not witnessed as many morons, spoiled brats, and generally scuzzy-looking individuals as I have now.  A lot of them are also brainwashed into believing the worst of everything and everybody and generally having a nihilistic and/or materialistic view of the world.

    It’s bad, folks.  It’s bad.

Blame the parents, blame the teachers— whoever the authorities are that are supposed to be bringing up the next generation with some sense of traditional values and and knowledge of history and pride in our society, they are failing miserably.

It brings me great joy to see kids that are well-behaved, intelligent, and just not the kind of snotty, smart-mouthed jerks that are glorified in movies and TV series.

Unfortunately, I see those kind of quality individuals less and less…

  3. My big sister had to cope with these schools years ago when her younger son (my younger nephew), at one point, got suspended from school for grabbing (even hitting) a girl who was reeeeeeally bullying him!  She wanted to know what was going on, they told her that they were aware of the situation, and they said, “But, he hit a *girl*!” My sister replied, “Yeah, so?  It’s okay for the girl to hit on him, and my son can’t defend himself or fight back?  See, you’re turning this into sexual discrimination!”

I have such a cool sister.  I always love her.  smile

  4. I recommend a book by Diana West called “The Death of the Grown-up.” It is a brilliant analysis of why we have such a severe problem, not only with actual children, but with child-like behavior in adults.  It’s amazing how her ideas explain--clearly and simply--a vast range of the problems with today’s society, from socialistic urges to PC and the overwhelming sense of entitlement among those born after the 60s.

  5. I blame pop psychology people like Dr. Spock, whose books on child rearing caused the parents of baby boomers to coddle them too much, and has led to successive generations of people who can’t deal with reality or have any sense of responsibly and ethics. It seems to be getting progressively worse.

  6. Oddly enough, West has a lot to say about Spock’s role in creating the mess.
