WINNER: David Cook!
Congratulations to David Cook for winning American Idol. You deserved it. It’s great to see the judges proved wrong.
Cook won by 12 million votes. He slaughtered little David A. So much for pimping the golden boy.
The reason he won is fairly simple. While David A is a great singer, he is just a bland kid. Whereas Cook is someone people can relate to. He sings like a real rock star, comes from a blue collar job and he is totally surprised he got this far. He didn’t even want to try out for Idol He was talked into it when an Idol camera man talked him into it at the auditions.
I wasn’t that sold on him originally but he won me over. Good for him!
Here’s his winner’s song, which I think is the best one yet, I actually might download this one.
As for the show itself, I thought it was excellent. I compare it to season 5’s wonderful closer. This had lots of great singing and guests. I will be saving this one and watching it a coupe more times, It was truly a magic night.
I’m so happy for him.
I enjoyed parts of it, but didn’t have a chance to really watch the entire show.
I was impressed with Sayesha until Seal came out...her voice got completely lost. Maybe it was a microphone issue because she sounded much better with Donna Summer when she changed mics. Although I thought George Michael’s song was a bit of a downer, it was beautiful. I do like his voice and he commanded everyone’s attention with his performance.
I really didn’t have a chance to see much more than that and the final announcement.
I did see a few bits of some group numbers, and I felt like Amanda (?), the raspy-voiced girl with black and white hair, did not want to be there. I think she really misused her 15 secs to show the world what she’s made of.
Kudos to them all for following their dreams.Posted by on 05/22 at 06:05 AMI read somewhere that Amanda wasn’t happy with her AI experience. Unfortunately for her, she was contractually bound to be there for the finale. But yeah, I’ve never heard her sing worse. I couldn’t understand half of what she sang, and I knew the songs!
It was so good to see Michael Johns and Carly Smithson again. It’s so true that they were gone too soon (and Ryan said so). I felt like they were ‘featured’ so maybe this was to make it up to them and give them more exposure.
I’m glad the season is over. It became too predictable - both Davids sang the same week after week. I just hope Archie’s dad isn’t too hard on him.
Alrighty - “So You Think You Can Dance” starts tonight!
Posted by on 05/22 at 06:30 AMThe one thing I didn’t like about last night’s show was all the relentless plugs, like teh extended commercial for the Love Guru.
I really enjoyed the Johns/Smithson duet. The Letter i a favorite of mine. In fact, they had a bunch of favorite songs of mine last night. I love “Get Ready”.
Amanda looked miserable, all right. I don’t know what she’s complaining about. It’s free exposure if she really wants to be an entertainer.
