My normal website is thehud.com. So I wasn’t keeping up this one as much. So this site didn’t deal with my long recovery from the loss of my foot, then leg in 2014/2015. I am happy to report I’ve been on the mend and have been working with a physical therapist to walk again on a prosthetic, as you can see from the picture. It was a long ordeal when I had the bone infection that I lived with, but that’s all gone and I am much better now.

How do you master the novel? This book teaches you all the tricks and more. It explains how to make fiction that is unforgettable and meaningful. The secrets are out there, but this is the only book you’ll need to learn them.
Since my last post I have been working on the publication of The Secrets of Writing. I have added new material and art and updated the original text by refining it and adding more text as well as updating references. I also made it more about writing in general and not just about comics, thought I still have stuff in there about comics writing. I am busy polishing it up this weekend because it has to go out Sunday. I will make sure it is available it all the book outlets and in print. I am busy working on all those details now.
I hope those of you who waited for this book find it worth your patience. I am sorry it took so long, but I wanted to think about it and needed to also get my motivation to finish it going. Well, my experience of losing a leg has been a great motivator. I am focused now and once I finish this book I will be finishing a TV pitch for one of my books and a screenplay outline for The Psycho. Then I will be working on finishing my two novel projects that I should have been out by now if things didn’t go so bad for me last fall.
I plan to do more regular posts to the blog as well, once this book is in. I want to talk about my new comics project that I am very excited about. It’s coming along.
My non fiction book The Secrets of Writing is now available for preorder on Amazon.

Mike W Barr, veteran comics and novel writer has joined James Hudnall’s Indy publishing house Fortan Media with his upcoming fantasy novel Once a Wizard.
“We’re very excited to have Mike, who I had the pleasure of working with on Malibu’s Ultraverse back in the day.’ said Hudnall. ‘He brings a wealth of experience to the table.”
Once a Wizard tells the story of a retired Wizard who has to come back from retirement to look for his teen-aged daughter after she is kidnapped. It will be published by Fortan Media this December, in time for Christmas.
Barr is the first writer to join James Hudnall in this indy publishing house. For more information go here.
Today I got my new leg and I start the long road to recovery via physical therapy. I’m told to expect it to take 3-6 months before I can walk without assistance (like a walker or cane). I’ve been in a wheel chair for a year so I don’t expect miracles overnight, but I did take it home with me. And I’m very psyched.
We’ll be releasing a new edition of my first novel Hell’s Reward in the next week or so. I’ve been working on improving the formatting so I can get it in more book sellers and I always wanted a cover that will it in better with book cover design. Here’s a look at the design. I’ll announce the new rel;ease when its ready,
I am hard at work on finally finishing my book on writing which I started in 1995 and have been excepting on my site for years. I imported it into Scrivener which is the software I use to write these days, and I am redoing large chunks and adding a lot of material. I finally feel ready to release it and hope to get it out by the end of November or early December. We shall see.
It’s a book I wanted to release many times but I felt there was something missing, I now feel I have that covered and I hope it will serve as one of the best writing guides out there.
I appreciate the patience people have shown me for taking so long and the gratitude so many people have given for the stuff I did put online. I will update the blog when I’m closer to releasing it.
I am happy to report I am hard at work on my next Age of Heroes novel, Heaven’s War. Looking to get it out sometime next year. In the mean time, I have been working with a mapping program to sketch out how the world of Xera looks and where everything is. This map only focuses on the Kingdoms of Westguard, which is where most of the action in the first and second novel takes place. Maris is a large island nation to the west but you can’t see it here.
Now this is a crude map. I hope to have a much more polished version ready when I publish the next novel. I will also update the first novel with the map when I get the chance. I am already working on an updated version of the first book, Hell’s Reward, to include appendices and some better formatting.
