 ESPERS

ESPERS (pronounced S-pers) are people with exceptional psychic abilities. It's also the title of a long running, critically acclaimed comic book series.

The first issue debuted in 1986 and garnered praise from such writers as Ray Bradbury, Robert Bloch, Harlan Ellison, James Hogan and Roger Zelazny. Subsequent series have been hailed by critics, pros and fans alike as a groundbreaking, original, and exceptional series.

THE STORY: Linda Williams (pictured above) discovered at an early age that she could control and communicate with electronic devices psychically. When her father is kidnapped by terrorists in Beirut, she uses her power to tap into the CIA's database to find out what they know about her father's whereabouts and the terrorists that took him.

Instead she discovers a plot by the CIA to coerce other Espers like herself into joining their ranks. She steals a list of espers the CIA has been watching and hires them to help her rescue her father. Unfortunately, the terrorists turn out to be a front for an extremely powerful secret cabal that runs the world from the shadows. Now Linda and her friends are marked for death, and they must fight a battle to overthrow this cabal and upset their evil plans for the future of mankind.

THE SERIES: To date there have been Five Espers series. Each one forming a graphic novel. The first, "The Storm", was illustrated by David Lloyd of "V For Vendetta" fame. It was published by Eclipse comics in the mid 1980s and has been collected twice. The second series, "Interface", was painted by Paul Johnson, who also worked on "Books of Magic" with Neil Gaiman. It was published by Marvel/Epic in 1990. Books Three and Four were illustrated by acclaimed artist Greg Horn. They are "Undertow" and "Black Magic". They have been collected by Image Comics.
