  1. Sad, sad news. I've known Jim Hogan since 1983, and a more approachable professional I've never known. At cons, you could always find Jim hanging out at the various fan parties, instead of hiding in the SWFW suite, and what great conversations! It's been a bad summer for the F&SF Community: Al Williamson, Harvey Pekar, and now Jim Hogan.

  2. This was a punch to the gut–and I agree with Mr. McLaughlin about the losses this year (Carl Macek, Frazetta, Al Williamson, Pekar, and now James Hogan…)

I never met him personally, but I did enjoy the books that he authored (perhaps one of the best things in my Freshman year science class was being assigned INHERIT THE STARS to read). And THE TWO FACES OF TOMORROW is one of the best “man vs. machine” stories I've ever read.

To Mr. Hudnall–this is years in coming, but thank you for adapting AREA 88 way back it the 80s (and in the 90s in Animerica). It is still one of the best manga I've ever read, although I'm somewhat frustrated that it isn't as well-known as it should be.

  3. An excellent book to be sure and a real eye opener. A lot of what we're taught as the gospel isn't. And I don't mean religion. I mean a lot of science we're taught is outdated or wrong. The book did a great job exposing that.
