Two Americas, Indeed

The economy continues to stagnate but the president and his people are determined to spin the narrative that the stimulus worked. They even posted this hilariously bogus chart on one of his websites today. This is the administraton who claimed the unemployment percentage went down when 20,000 more jobs were lost. Too bad Alan Greenspan pointed out they were cooking the books.

Unfortunately for Obama, reality doesn’t lie.

Homelessness in rural and suburban America is straining shelters this winter as the economy founders and joblessness hovers near double digits—a “perfect storm of foreclosures, unemployment and a shortage of affordable housing,” in one official’s eyes.
“We are seeing many families that never before sought government help,” said Greg Blass, commissioner of Social Services in Suffolk County on eastern Long Island.

“We see a spiral in food stamps, heating assistance applications; Medicaid is skyrocketing,” Blass added. “It is truly reaching a stage of being alarming.”

The federal government is again counting the nation’s homeless and, by many accounts, the suburban numbers continue to rise, especially for families, women, children, Latinos and men seeking help for the first time. Some have to be turned away.

“Yes, there has definitely been an increased number of turnaways this year,” said Jennifer Hill, executive director of the Alliance to End Homelessness in suburban Cook County, Illinois. “We’re seeing increases in shelter use along the lines of 30 percent or more.”

Meanwhile, all the alleged pundits are saying that only wackos and extremists are calling the Obama’s socialists or communists, despite the fact that they’ve surrounded themselves by those people and Obama was groomed by them. Well, for all you naysayers, chew on this.

Whatever they are, one thing I won’t accuse them of is being competent.

UPDATE: More bad news on the economy. Looks like Obama has some explaining to do. Oh, yeah. Right. It’s Bush’s fault.

  1. My wife, who used to (since she can’t vote) take a “whatever” view of politics has become a bigger conservative than me since Obama got elected and started acting like an idiot child with a machine gun. And the maddest I’ve seen her was today after listening to his speech about how awesome and perfect the stimulus was. “How can he just lie like that? Has he no shame? Where are the media?”
I have to admit I thought he’d never top the “Republicans have never suggested any ideas for health care” speech for sheer awe-inspiring gall, but that was just bullshit politics. This speech lies about reality to real people who are without jobs and having a hard time. He should be ashamed. The mistake he made here is to lie about something that is provably wrong. People have a finely-tuned sense of good times and bad times (as any president trying to get reelected in a recession will tell you) and their gut tells them that this ain’t a recovery. I think this will be one of his biggest mistakes so far in his term.
Maybe if he just made more speeches and explained more carefully to people how things are better now, the hoi-polloi would understand. Ignorant fools!

  2. No kidding. You probably seen that poster with Bush and the caption “Miss me yet?”
I just saw one today with Clinton.
    That’s how bad it’s gotten.
